so what i've learned from this topic is....don't go to the brooklyn and argue with any black male friends of mine, that are age 25-40 and are known to own guns

Indeed. Scare-mongering, mostly, IMO.

Also, look at those stats--more than half of the murders were committed by friends or acquaintances of the victim. How many of those do you want to bet were drug- or gang-related? Your chances of being murdered as you walk down the street minding your own business, even in a bad section of the Bronx or Brooklyn (and there are many lovely, safe neighborhoods in both of those areas), are not significantly higher than they would be almost anywhere else.
