Ok i was going to right alot more but realize i'm going to confuse ppl, i'm just going to make it short and sweet.

Has anyone taken their birds to the U.S and what exactly was needed. Did you have to have something from the vet or did you have to make sure a vet was at the border.

It will depend on what type of bird - parrots I believe are controlled by the CITES regulation. I think I have seen information on the Department of State about requirements for importing birds under the section for importing pets. If I find it, I will post the link here.

I read that site and the U.S borders web site. the fee is a bit different i guess i'm going to just have to call em to find out for sure what they actually want.

We brought our little budgies with us and here's what we had to do:

1. Go to a Canadian vet who could 'examine' them and provide an International Health Certificate.

2. Show up at the border (we crossed in Sweetgrass, Montana) and tell the folks from wildlife that we had the birds with us.

3. See the US side vet (who also charges you a fee, cant' remember how much) so he can take ONE look at the feathered creatures and say OK, go ahead.

Quick recommendations: CALL THE PORT OF ENTRY BEFOREHAND TO MAKE SURE OF THE VET'S OFFICE HOURS. Talk to the wildlife person in the POE.

The rules are pretty standard, but you won't want surprises. Also, birds can only cross via land. No flying with them.
