good morning everyone

i was reading some topics here in vj about k1 visa and i really got shocked

well me and my queen will hire an immigration lawyer to file for k1 visa

i tried many times to tell my queen that we can do that and we don't need to hire any lawyers

but while she is so worried girl and she says she can not do that by her own i agreed with her

so when i was reading some topics i found someone here in vj got problems with an immigration lawyer

after he sent a package of documents and many pictures ......to the lawyer and paid the attorney fees all communications from the lawyer have stopped. He doesn't answer emails, messages and he doesn't answer the phone calls.

my fiancée lives in North Carolina and we will hire an immigration lawyer from Massachusetts and she will not meet him in person . we will just send our documents to him and we will pay to him by credit card or money order ...

i have been thinking maybe we can him to send us a copy of his license or his ID

we checked his name in yellow page and stuff like that and we talked to him several times and he sound so good man

so my question is how can we make sure he is a good lawyer and he wont do the same to us???!!

i will appreciate your advice :help:

have a nice blessed weekend

Nothing's impossible . Nothing's unreachable .When I am weary you make me stronger

This love is beautiful .So unforgettable . I feel no winter cold when we are together .

Will you stand by me ?!!!Hold on and never let me go .

Will you stand by me?!! With you i know i belong . When the story gets told .

When day turns into night .I look into your eyes . I see my future now .All the world and its wonder

This love wont fade away. And through the hardest days . I will never question us .You are the reason my only reason.

I'm blessed to find what i need in a world loosing hope. you are my only believe .

You make things right every time after time.....

Will you stand by me ?!!!

I love you so much and i miss you so much more .

We personally haven't used a lawyer - I know there are people who have had good and bad experiences of them. Personally, and this is just my opinion, I would only use a lawyer if there are added complications to your case and only you can decide on that.

Would it be worth pointing your fiancee in the direction of this website to help ease her mind? The whole process can be very daunting at first and I can understand why she would want to just offload it onto a lawyer but really it isn't too bad and there are so many people here to offer advice and point you in the right direction :)

Ultimately the choice is you but as I mentioned above - unless there are complications I personally wouldn't bother with a lawyer :)

I don't have any experience with lawyers. We was able to complete paperwork using vj and the example forms.

Mainly I just wanted to say hi. I see you said your fiance was in North Carolina...same as me. Good luck on your journey.

hello,

firstly as others have said a lawyer isn't really needed, even if you get a lawyer, it will be the part of you and your fiance to fill up the papers and arrange all the documents, like letters to each other, chat logs, flight stubs, things like that, you are basically paying a lawyer only to be a second pair of eyes and also to point out a few things if they are missing.

we have hired a lawyer ourself, i was against of it but my husband wanted one, we do have a kind of a situation, so lawyer did help so far. i have no complains with our lawyer, just make sure you choose from AILA.com its acronym for American immigration lawyer association, you can also find someone local through that site and its a legit site, almost nothing to fear about.

I have to agree with Jeraly.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

We don't usually recommend lawyers by name publicly on this website.

We do publicly recommend on the homepage of this website that the content of the site is no substitute for competent legal counsel.

Anytime in life you need a lawyer, you should 'shop' for the best one for your case - just like you would shop for a car.

Ask what professional organizations they belong to. A qualified immigration lawyer should continually be attending educational seminars on the topic and they may belong to AILA or other groups that keep up to speed with changes in the law. Ask them how many petitions they have processed in the past and what their success rate is. Ask them what they will do for you if the case runs into trouble. Ask them if they personally oversee the paperwork or if they hand it off to staff. Ask them how much personal communication you will get from them.

Don't treat a lawyer like he is some god or diety. He or she puts his pants on the same way you do - one leg at a time.

Personally I recommend anyone considering this journey at least consult with a good immigration attorney before they begin. We did.

We also consulted with two other attorneys during later phases of our journey (so far)!

From the beginning I contacted my senator's office, and there is a person that deals with nothing but immigration on staff. She obtained all the necessary documents, and told us what supporting evidence we would need to submit. She helped us with any questions we had, and made sure the forms were filled out right. This didn't cost anything. When Ahmed finished his paperwork, he emailed it to her, and she looked it over to make sure it was right before he submitted it. And yes, both of us did answer some questions wrong, and we had to clarify the answers. After we were done, we were confident with what we sent.

However, later I did skim through the internet and find that the documentation should have been submitted in a certain order to make it easier for the embassy to locate what they need. Besides that, everything went smoothly. If I had to do it again, I would do it exactly as I did, but ask more questions. VJ has been a wealth of information. If you can't find it on this site, someone here will guide you to it.

Best of luck to both of you.

I recommend not using a lawyer. I did and he didnt do anything but mistakes.. halfway thru I just stopped using him and did the rest(with help from VJ).

Most lawyers do not fill out the forms. so college kids who intern for them do it. This is just following instructions and filling out forms. If there was a serious issue or you need to go to court then I understand a need for a lawyer.. but trust me.. use VJ and it will go thru smoothly.

Why you don´t ask to her to join us here in this wonderful forum?. If she does that, she will see that there is not necessary to spend money on that. I don´t think lawyers are necessary at all. Tell to her that money can be used for the weeding or buying stuffs when you get there since you will not be able to work at the beginning.

One important thing to remember is that a Lawyer really does not care about your case. Are they going to do their best to get your case done fast? Probably not, all they care about is your money. In such a case where you can get help from everyone here on the Visa Journey website plus all the guides that are offered here. There is really no good reason to get a lawyer unless you have complications in which could alter the success of your case. If you are clean of those problems, it is suggested that you don't waste the money and time dealing with a lawyer.

I would not hire a lawyer in another State. Not a good idea in my opinion. I live in the Washington DC metropolitan area and believe when I say there are 1000 upon 1000 of lawyers here willing to take your money and do no work. Don't learn the hard way like so many other people, me included. I could have filled out the paper work and filed it myself. It's not hard. Are you applying for the fiance visa? She should try to do the filing herself or find an attorney in her town. If She still insists on having a lawyer do the work, she should try to get a referral from someone.

Good Luck.
