My votes:

I pack myself and recruit friends to help.

Free flowing food and beverages (and) A debt I cannot repay.

I will hire others to do it all.

Moving really sux. We have been packing for 8 days and in a few hours, 9 friends will arrive to load and unload. Many food and beverage choices will be available on the other end, for the volunteers.

Your thoughts?

I didn't know you guys were moving. Where to?

- I pack myself and hire others to do the heavy work.

- If I did recruit friends I'd have plnety of food and beverage available and return the favor.

- I voted ''I won't move ever again.'' but then I thought, yeah, we probably will move to brazil in the future, at least I hope we will. Then I plan on putting clothes, books, essencial things we need in a suitcase and sell the rest.

I don't really know how things work here, in Brazil:

- we (people that live in the house) pack everything, clothes, china, books, everything in boxes.

- we hire a moving company - they have a big truck, not one of those U-Haul tiny things. They come to your house and do all your heavy work. Carry all the furniture, kitchen appliances, laundry machine, the boxes with your stuff, everything and put in the truck. They drive to your new location. They carry everything to your new home and they put together some furniture if necessary, like bed, wardrobe, etc.

Good luck with your new home  I hope you guys are happy there.

This last move we packed up our things ourselves and recruited friends to help with the heavy stuff. We paid for their gas and had food and drinks available...it was a cold week for moving. When we move again, it will be to move out of the country back home to Nova Scotia. We'll pack our essentials and sell everything else.

When we moved in October we started the 'packing' by sorting - months in advance. I had lived in the house 28 years so I had a lot of accumulation. We had a MAMMOTH yard sale in June.

We started the serious packing about a month before the actual move date. We did that ourselves.

Two days before the 'big day' my family helped us move some of the breakables and clothes. A truck and 2 cars - three trips.

We hired a local mover to do the big heavy stuff.

Our move was from the suburbs about 12 miles into the city.

It was also to a smaller house, which is 'backwards' from what most folks do.

Our house was being renovated and some of the work was not done, including the attic renovation for my son's room. We had the movers put my sons furniture and possessions into a UHaul rental building. One month later they moved everything upstairs for us.

All together the movers and building rental cost us about $1000.00.

I %$#&@ hhhhhhhate moving! We just moved at the end of January, but we did all the packing ourselves and got some friends to help.

Several years ago, when I was helping my ex-wife move, I rented a truck from UHaul and drove by an area where the day laborers would hang out. I asked two of them to help. It was great. We got the move done quickly...I bought them lunch and gave them both forty dollars for about two hours of work.

The last time I moved, I had to pack in about a week because I was forced to vacate my apartment because it was sold as a condo...I hate packing that fast; I would rather pack little by little over a span of a month or two...

I've given friends pizza and beer to help me in the past.

Now that I have an entire apartment full of just my stuff, though, we paid people to load our truck.

In the future we'll also pay someone to drive the dayum truck.

Voting is good, further related commentary is better.

Dean... Really?

We got it done Saturday, with 1/2 gallon of Jack Daniels and 2 cases of beer. Also, 4 large pizzas from a local place called Minsky's. We plan to invite the "crew" back for more appreciation in the next few weeks, with Indonesian food and alcohol.

Any other recent move experiences?

Ah, the benefits of a morning move! The drinking started after we finished.

when we moved from Utah to California a couple of years ago we hired a U-pack truck, they came and parked it at the house for 3 days while we loaded it, they drove it out here for us and then left the truck with us another 4 days to unpack. it worked really well except fror the part where I have WAY too much #######.
