no letter of employment

My interview is getting close & my fiance has already sent to me the documents I will need for my interview. However, he did not include a letter specifying that he is working for a company. He is an independent contractor & self-employed. Is it really required to have the letter with me during the interview?I already have with me his notarized I-134, 2007 ITR, 1099 for 2007 and W2s for year 2006 & 2005. I asked him for this letter but he told me it is not necessary. What should I do?I need your advice... :help::unsure:

Ohhh...I don't really know much about the business world.

It seems like he could have at least included a letter saying he is his OWN boss, explaining when he became an independent contractor, how long he's been doing it, if there are any other companies/partners he frequently works with, etc. I don't think it'll be a problem at all that your fiance is self-employed, but I would think the embassy would want some sort of proof of that. But then I suppose the tax records and his income is proof enough?

If it were me I would want a letter/statement from him just explaining that he's self-employed. You can just explain this to them at the interview though, too. I don't think they try to bite people's heads off, and this doesn't sound like a huge issue to me.

I really hope it goes okay  I guess the worst that can happen is they request more evidence and you have to go back again or something. Maybe someone else knows more of an answer than this...

He can do a letter of self-employment where he says what amount he's planing to get in the next year (2008) and for how long he has been working like self employer. But sincerely, I think that it'd not be a problem because he isn't using a co-sponsor and he is showing his present (2007) income tax. Which means that he, like principal sponsor, is being responsible of you at the USCIS eyes -talking about economy proof-. The worse thing that would happen is that they ask you for submit that information after the interview. Any way, if you want to be sure having that letter, your fiance can make one and send you a copy (by e-mail) but the best thing is that the letter will be original, no copy... You decide

Good luck.

I'd agree with this. I met the poverty guidelines so the consulate told me I didn't even need W2s from 2-3 years ago...

If the CO were to ask, you can say that your fiance is self-employed, and here is the proof (then you submit what you have).

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil
