  1. 1. If you could time travel, what would you do? (you can select MORE THAN ONE answer)

    • Invent some "new" technology and become rich.
      9
    • Use your knowledge of what happens to bet on sports to win money.
      9
    • Use your knowlege of what happens to invest in stocks to gain money.
      14
    • Attempt to "right" wrongs that happened in the past.
      15
    • Seek revenge on those who hurt you before or stop them from ever doing it in the first place.
      9
    • Kill someone who you know will become a menace or threat at some point (i.e. Hitler)
      7
    • Prevent attacks from happenng (i.e. Pearl Harbor or 9/11)
      8
    • "Acquire" items from the past and sell them in mint condition on eBay.
      8
    • Watch major historical events play out as they happened in real life.
      19
    • Do something I didn't think of (please write down your answer)
      7
  2. 2. What do you think are some of the risks of time travel? (you can select MORE THAN ONE answer)

    • Harming your family line somehow (therefore never being born).
      18
    • Getting stuck in the past or dying there somehow.
      17
    • Accidentally being the cause of your own birth (or a family member's birth).
      13
    • Murdering someone important to history (whether on purpose or by accident).
      8
    • Ending up in some sort of disaster (i.e. earthquake, flood, tornado, etc).
      10
    • Some risk I didn't think of (please write down your answer)
      10
  3. 3. Is time travel even possible? (you may only select ONE answer)

    • Sure, why not? Just because we haven't invented the means to do it doesn't mean it's impossible.
      11
    • Possibly. There are all sorts of theories that both for and against time travel, so who knows?
      16
    • Absolutely not. Even if you weren't to take the "grandfather paradox" into consideration, according to the laws of physics it's scientifically impossible.
      9
    • I don't really care. If it can't be done, fine; if it can, it'll probably be a government-only operation, so I won't get to use it anyway.
      6
    • None of the above really suit me (please write down your answer)

I wouldn't change anything in the past. Even to kill someone as horrible as Hitler. That might really upset some people, but I'm sorry. Changing anything in the past might possibly cause the future to be worse than it is now. No, I think I would simply watch momentous/historical events from the past. Observe and learn. If I could go into the future, I might be inclined to bring back certain info or technology. But even then, tampering with anything from the future would again....change the future. So, probably my travels would be limited to scenic vacations.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

a ) other

I would like to get to know my grandparents without them knowing who I am. I only met the grandfather on my father's side. He didn't recognise my father so, therefore, he didn't know who we were either. He died 6 months after that. All my other grandparents were dead 10 or 15 years before I was born.

b ) other

Any risks that might be present in the past are at least equal to any risks now.

c )

Not possible anyway.

Fun to think about some times, though. :)

I loved "the Time Machine". The HG Wells book was good. I did like the 1960 movie with Rod Taylor but think I like the remake with Guy Pearce better.

Really? I think the remake was sub-par (I think it was even directed or written by one of Wells' descendents). When the guy's fiancee got run over by the horse carriage - there was laughter in the back of the cinema.

I'd just be happy enough to see what happens in the far future - whether we discover aliens etc. Not really interested in the past, except in clearing up a few of the old mysteries - who was on top of the grassy knoll. Did Jesus really rise from the dead etc. etc.

If you think about it, we all "time travel" every time we look at photographs or videos. All of those present a clear image of what life was like in the past, since they were taken before you look at them. Granted, it's not how we generally think of time travel, but if you look at photos dating back a 100 years ago, you're seeing something (and probably someone) who no longer exists. It's quite interesting, when put into that perspective.

I prefer the remake as well, at least certain aspects of it. Yes, it was directed by Wells' great-grandson.

The laughing thing I think has much more to do with the character of movie audiences today, than the movie itself.

I dunno - the actress who plays the Time Traveller's wife, well... lets just say she wasn't the best (neither were her lines). I think the romance was overly sentimental, given how 'wet' and annoying she was - which make it hard to believe that her death would be sufficient motivation for the character to proceed with his "experiments". That right there was the problem for me - it just didn't seem tragic enough, given that it formed the main characters conflict through the rest of the film.

I can see why they added that subplot to the 2002 emake - but I think it was un-necessary. The Time Traveller is essentially displaced in time, so grounding him in a 'present' as it were I don't think works in the context of Well's story. He's supposed to be lonely - the whole point of the story is that he's going forward in time to see (and comment on) what happens - many thousands (millions) of years into the future. There wasn't much more to the original story than that.

I didn't mind the effects though - the Time Machine was cool, as were some of the "future vistas", but the animatronic Morlocks were pretty atrocious - even Planet of the Apes had better makeup and costume design than that. In that respect there's something about the George Pal version which was very ahead of its time - in terms of special effects anyway. Much like how the original King Kong still stands up over the various remakes.

I only picked go back to watch historical events...but you would have to hide pretty good which would be impossible probably. I wouldn't want to be seen and possibly ruin things. :P If I could be invisible, I'd go back to when Jesus was on earth and hear him talking to the disciples. I wouldn't want to stay long though, it would be a tough life to live! And those pesky Romans in charge. (I'm part Roman, hehe) Maybe it'd be cool to see my famly members from a couple generations ago too.

I think I'd feel guilty forever if I used info from the past to gain money. I'd rather not do it.
