I am hoping someone can answer my question. I am a little confused about this, so please bare with me. I am planning to travel the end of March to visit my hubby in Lebanon....barring any situations arising there...and planning to stay 3 months or so. I had him do an affidavit so I could get our daughter's passport without him being present. The passport people sent back with her passport the arabic part of the affadavit, but not the english part....I called the Lebanese embassy in DC to make sure I won't have any issues getting her visa at the airport in Beirut, but I'm a little worried the airline might give me a hard time with taking her out of the country. Does anyone have experience with this that can maybe put my mind at ease? He is on her birth certificate, and our final destination will be the country he was born....so maybe we won't have issues.

I could always try to get the affidavit translated to english I suppose, though I don't really want to shell out $75+ for it.

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions. :luv:

As long as your daughter has a valid passport I can't see how they could object.

An airline shouldn't be worried about things like that. And even if they did, explaining that you're taking your daughter to her dad should be enough.

Angie

I had read about checks at airports when one parent travels alone with a child and so I was insistent that my husband change his ticket to travel on the same flight as me when we returned to China after my maternity leave was up. He managed to do it so I never found out if there was any truth to this. However, my sister's husband is Greek and she has been traveling alone with their son back and forth to Greece (where she lives) since his birth 5 years ago. She does it at least once a year. She didn't even know about this warning when I asked her. She has never been questioned.

I think the real issue is getting the passport. Since both parents have to know about this and agree to it, it really takes all responsibility away from the people at the POD, and since you are a USC taking your child out of the US rather than the foreign spouse taking the child out of the US, I don't think it would be a problem anyway.

I suppose you could bring proof of strong ties to the US with you just in case, and maybe even your NOA to show that you will be coming back to the US. I doubt you will need it.

I had read warnings from certain airline websites to this effect. I have travelled twice with my children out of the country. What I did was get a notarized affidavit from their father stating he knew.

Basically..........

I (insert his name) know that my child/ren (insert name/s) will travel to (place) on (dates) with his/her/their mother (insert) for (insert reason).

Signed, dated, and notarized.

I carried it with their passports and WAS asked to show it at the Miami airport before boarding the international flight on just one of our travels. No issues after I produced the document.

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast
