The check for AOS was finally cashed this week ... what a nice dent in the checkbook!!! (NOT!)

I dont know if I am posting this right, I havent posted too much here ... My finances interview is July 24th at 9AM and we are both sooooooooooooooooo nervous !!! Can you guys help us out with maybe some sample questions, if they turn us down i dont know what the heck were gonna do...

Also, I read somewhere that if he comes in thru the JFK airport that he could get his work permit right away, is this true ?

They just asked Liam how long we have known each other and where he will be living in the US. No biggy. Stay positive. They are just making sure it's a true relationship and not fraudulent. Everything will be fine.

Only 8 hours until our interview. Now the nerves are starting to kick in. I was absolutely fine and positive until today.

Yes, I know everything will be fine. He'll be all approved by the time I wake up for work in the morning. And on the way home, he is stopping by the jewellers to pick up my wedding ring.

Will let you know in the morning how it all went!

This is a 90 day stamp only. There will most likely be a gap in the time he is legally permitted (according to the DHS) to work between his POE and receiving his EAD after being married and filing for adjustment. Good luck at your interview!

I dont know what you mean by the gap.. does this mean there will be a time period where he can work, and then cant work ??

Firstly.... our interview went well and we were APPROVED!!!

Only a few more weeks until we are reunited for good.

This is what they mean by "a gap"... The stamp is only good for 90 days from the date of entry into the US. The AOS will take longer to complete than that 90 days. There will be a gap of time between when the 90 day stamp expires, and when the green card is delivered.

Keep in mind that you cannot even apply for AOS until after you are married and have a copy of the marriage certificate. And you need to apply for and receive a social security number before you can work. Combined, those two delays could eat up weeks, and before you know it a month or more has passed.

We will be getting the stamp, and our plan is for him to get a little disposable hourly job at a local store or something during those first months, and use the time to look for a good full-time position for later. But we are prepared for the fact that he will end up unemployed for at least a few months. It's just the way it is.

(Let me first say, for anyone else who may read this, that this applies to the LONDON EMBASSY interview ONLY. For info on how things are done in other embassies, you can try going to that region's sub-forum.)

The age difference will have absolutely no bearing on your interview, and whether or not you are approved. Really.

And they don't really ask a lot questions, and quiz you on whether or not your relationship is real, etc. Really.

This is more or less what happens at the embassy...

Once you go in, you are assigned a number, according to visa category. There will be about 20 others waiting for non-immigrant visas. Then you sit in the waiting room and watch the board for your number to pop up, indicating which window to go to. You then pay the fees, get fingerprinted and the person will ask for the paperwork Packet 3 told you to bring (I-134, birth certificate, police certificate, etc...). You then sit back down and wait for your number again to go see the interviewer.

By the time you get in to see the interviewer, they have already reviewed all of you paperwork, and know if you will be approved. More or less, if the paperwork you brought is in order, then you are all set! The interview itself will take ten minutes or less, and was very relaxed, almost a formality. The only question asked was "So tell me how you met?". As Gerry told her the story, the interviewer was all smiles and truly interested, all while finishing up with a few things on the computer. Then she said "Well, it's my pleasure to approve your application and wish you well on your new life in the United States of America." She then had him swear and sign the form, and told him to go pay the courier on the way out. And that was that!

Btw, you only pay the courier if you are approved. If denied, your visa is handed back to you right then and there. So that's how you can be sure you were approved ("pending the fingerprint results", as they are bound to say).

So yes, they ask a question or two to get a feel of if you are legit or not, and to make it qualify as an actual interview. But like I said, it's just a formality at that point.

Gerry did say it was a thrill to see our actual petition from Vermont on the desk. Every page had been stamped APPROVED in red by the VCS person, and the file was twice as thick as what we had originally sent, so they must have added a lot of paperwork to it.

Go check out the UK Forum interview thread, and you will see that 99% of the people have had the same exact experience.
