So fiance is trying to save up some more money. His visa expires May 7 and he will be working until the end of April so he will be here May 2nd or 3rd. I'm freaking out because it's so close to the date. I worry that something could happen once he gets to the airport and they send him back or something and then we'd be screwed. I hope he doesn't forget anything either.

Is the brown package and passport/visa all he has to show to the immigration officers?

Did anyone else wait so long to get here. He didn't want to leave that same month because it would just be too hectic. This way he said he has time to mentally prepare and getall his stuff together.

It'll be fine... I'd allow at least a week in case his plane flight is cancelled or something and he has to get a later flight, but apart from that you'll be okay. I got my visa in July and travelled in November - my personal cutoff date for being married was Christmas because I REALLY wanted to be married (at last) in the same year I got the visa.

Karen - Melbourne, Australia/John - Florida, USA

STAGE 2A - Arriving in US (4 Nov 2004) to AOS Application (16 April 2005) - 5 months, 13 days (164 days)

STAGE 2B - Applying for AOS to GC Approval - 9 months, 4 days (279 days)

STAGE 3 - Lifting Conditions. Filing (19 Dec 2007) to Approval (December 11 2008)

If we decide to pursue the K1 instead of the K3/cr1 that's what we're going to do. Especially since when our sweeties get here, they can't work for a bit.

*cracks whip* :P

Howver, (and I'm not sure if this is relevant or not), check with the state on how soon you can get married after getting the license. Dunno if K1 allieviates this stipulation, but I know in some states there's a delay period.

Good luck, but I don't think you'll need it!

prujohn,

Point of clarification - leaves on un-interrupted travel to the USA, not arrives in the USA, before the visa expires.

Yodrak

Shouldn't be a problem. My wife (then fiance') did the same thing when coming from Serbia. Just make sure he arrives on or before May 6 (just in case... )

We waited until the six mths was almost up - left ourselves 15 days grace in case of any act of god or airline issues to work and receive as much cash as possible - however, I wouldn't personally recommend leaving it that late.

Apart from the stress of worrying so much "if something goes wrong", something went very wrong for us, my husband woke up with a rash one day and ended up in the hospital for 5 days getting sicker and sicker, until they realised that he was having a severe allergic reaction to the massive amounts of anti-biotics they were pumping into him, for fear it was MRSA/similar and this was just over 3 weeks until we were due to leave. He got better and everything went ahead as normal.

Our flights were booked, notice at our jobs given and notice to quit our flat accepted when this happened and it was incredibly stressful.

That being said, if something genuine happens, outside of your control, you can in those circumstances write to the Embassy - I don't recall reading any stories about that scenario- would be interesting to know if anyone has been able to delay their entry by extending the dates due to special circumstances.

Best of luck, it will go very quickly now, that's the positive :)

Even if there is a delay, I'm pretty sure they still have the 90 days.. The visa is only good for entry and then the I-94 would give them the 90 days, would it not? so they'd still have plenty of time to get married.. That was my understanding, anyways..
