Hi All,

Not so new to the boards, but thought it might be time to officially say hello :)

The nick on here says "Amanda+Stephen" but it's me, Amanda, that posts on the boards. I'm the USC, and my fiance is from the UK. The fun twist to our story is that he is from the UK, but currently lives in Germany. So of course I like to hang out and read the UK threads, and I'd love to read the Germany threads, but I'm the unfortunate one who took six years of Spanish  Anything that can be provided on the Frankfurt experience would be greatly appreciated!!! Better yet, I'm getting ready to go to Germany for the first time -- we've spent our time together either in the US or the UK thus far -- and I'm having my little bit of worries over going to a country where I won't be able to understand most people! Nor speak to them! **maybe I should go out and buy a German/English dictionary** Any great places I should go see while I'm in Germany? I'm going to be there for 2.5 weeks, and I'd love to squeeze in some cool experiences when we can! Between his work and my work, not sure that will allow for much, but it's worth a shot! Any and all ideas welcome!

Anyhow, I currently call Cary, NC my home (suburb of Raleigh) although I have lived in Indiana, Texas and New York. We haven't decided if NC will be our permanent home, but it will be for a time being!! There's lots more important paperwork to fill out than run around trying to figure out our final destination!

And thanks to all the people who have already been helpful. This place is great -- it's great having people who have been through the process, or are going through the process providing wonderful insight. Had I not found this sight months ago, we probably would have sent out our application in complete disarray, with it missing most of the required elements

Hello Amanda. Welcome to VJ !

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

hey there! Welcome, welcome and how exciting you will see eachother soon! yippeee for you guys!

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Heidelberg is not too far from Frankfurt. You might want to check that out. A lot of Americans around and it is a fairly pretty and clean place. Mannheim is not too far from Heidelberg and is also OK. I think Koeln is about 2 or so hours north of Frankfurt by train. I love the German-Roman museum they have there. If you are feeling more adventurous, Leipzig, Muenster, Oldenburg, and Hamburg are also very nice and worth a visit, but are all farther away.

Welcome and good luck!
