My husband has been divorced for 11 years. He purchased this house - new - 5 1/2 years ago. He had 4 addresses from the time he divorced to the time he moved here. He removed her name off of all of his accounts and everywhere they were listed together. He closed joint accounts and credit cards. He changed her as beneficiary in insurance plans, etc. He removed her from health plans - all of this 10 years ago. We still get mail addressed to her at this house - where she has never lived. Go figure.

(I send it back to sender with big red letters"Return to Sender - Wrong addressee-not at this address/NEVER lived at this address - remove from your mailing lists")

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

This happens to me but I like it. The girl who lived here before us worked at MTV and in fashion, so she's always getting invitations to fashion shows and after-parties because apparently she's still on publicist's lists. One of these days, they'll forget to put her name on the invite, and then I'm so there. :)

Can't you just use her name and say its you??? :-D

I can top that. My mom recently received mail addressed to my father at her new apartment.

My father died in 1978.

She has moved four times since then.

And... she doesn't use her apartment's address for mail, she uses my house.

#######?

Whaaaaaat?!!! That's just crazy. How does that happen?

 That's hilarious. We were sent tickets to a special event at this house. Or, rather, the former owner (doctor) was sent tickets. We didn't go, but the temptation was there. Let us know if you're going to be anywhere, Alex. We'll look for you in the news articles.

I've had worse. Check this out. I recently changed my cell phone number. well, about 6 months ago. One morning I received a phone call and since it was my day off and I didnt know the number, I allowed it to go to voicemail. I forgot about it for a while. And later in the afternoon, I checked. The call was from some highly frantic/angry woman. She claimed to get my number from her missing daughter's phone and her own home phone. She said she was calling the police and demanded I have her daughter call her. She was yelling and crying the whole time, saying her daughter was just a baby and I was an old man that would go to jail. My jaw hit the floor. I took the number from my cell phone and called her immediately. She pretty much verbally attacked me for about 5 minutes while I tried to calm her and reassure her that their must be a mistake. She tried to tell me I was some guy living out west somewhere. (have since forgotten minor details) I assured her that I was in Williamsburg, Virginia. and the really eerie part happens.....cue the Twilight Zone music....she says "well, so am I".:blink: WHOA!! Didn't see that coming. her daughter went missing from her father's house a week before. And he lives in Kansas! so, together the parents retraced her calls from a cell phone recovered by the girl's friend somewhere. And the call she made to her mother late the night before this all happened, supposedly came from my phone. this woman had my celll phone number in her phone! My cell phone was off all night and sitting on my nightstand only a half a mile away from her. Freakin' crazy! This girl was supposed to be in Kansas and trying to be her much older boyfriend in some other state. So, the girl's mother just assumed the call was made from "his" phone and that they were together. Get it? So, when she called me she thought she was calling the man who "stole" her innocent teenage daughter. And the fact that the girl's mother lived only blocks from me was enough to melt my brain. She eventually calmed down as I explained that there was some kind of mistake. I was not 40. I'm 33. I was not in Vegas or somewhere, but in her own hometown. And I certainly didnt know her daughter. We called back and forth several times all afternoon as I tried to help her get to the bottom of the issue. And after some time it was determined that the phone numbers were nearly identical. Except my 3 digit prefix was actually the area code from wherever the real came from. and when this lady called the number back. she didnt hit redial. she dialed manually. so, by doing this the area code tricked her phone into thinking it was just a local call and when the last 4 digits were dialed, my number engaged, even though she was still dialing. Make sense? I hope so, its complicated. So, my day was filled with all kinds of fun, runaway, frantic mom, police, phone company, etc. So, I changed my number immediately. And thankfully my phone service provider understood the issue and made the switch for free. Just really sucked because I had that number for like 7 years. I hate to update everyone about a new number. Not to mention the panic that came over me when having this message played. Sex offenses are very serious. and even if a man is innocent, the mere suggestion or accusation can be enough to really damage someone's reputation. What a really weird day that was. And I never found out how it all ended. But after all that stress, I was no longer concerned. Sounded like a typical broken family day with an out of controll teenager. No longer my problem. Whew!!

I know this had nothing to do with mail but the calls post made by Greeneyes, made me think of this. Creepy.

Oh things are great here! A bit chilly and I lived through my first earthquake the other night :D Still getting used to things but the homesickness gets less and less by the day. I met another American here in Hull so it's been quite a relief getting to have a conversation and not having to stop and explain words/culture/history etc. You really don't know what you miss till it's gone!

I think the total American population in Hull is about 5 or 6. I did find grape soda here, that was a huge victory! I'm starting to fit in nicely now :D

I'd kill for a nice Texan brisket sandwich though.

We were getting those calls recently on our home number which, we've had since we moved to our new home in 2004. They were leaving messages for this guy whose name is totally unfamiliar to us. My husband finally got tired of all the messages and called them back to let them know that the guy does not live at our address and phone number. They kept asking my husband where that other guy was and what is his new address and number. It took 5 minutes of my husband saying "we don't know the guy how much more his address and phone number" before they finally got the message and ended the call. :ranting:
