Jeroen, is your wedding today??? Are you already married? is it in a few hours? I assume that it's morning for you in Hawaii and that you'll get married in a few hours, so, good luck to you and congratulations!!! :)

Yepz, today was the day.. it is 10.20pm here as I am writing this, we came home about an hour ago and are updating friends and family as we speak (thats why I hop by here too ;) ).

I will update my blog most likely tomorrow, some pictures will be added there then too (we only got a few on our own camera but we had a professional photographer and 4 or 5 other people also brought cams so we will have a lot in the end hehe). Someone also videotaped it, if I can recode it (after I get the DVD) to fit on my site, then I'll post it there too :)

Next stop: AOS and all the other things (bleh).. I hope, by the way, that I know in time about the AP (should give no problems i think) so we can go on a holiday in February in my old country (as some form of a honeymoon and since it is my moms 60st birthday next Feb).

We'll see... gonna be busy with all the forms and such :S

Need to vent...

I need to send my certified copy of marriage certificate to the French consulate in Chicago so they will do everything they need to do to have the marriage recognized in France. Of course they need a few other things, like our birth certificates, etc. there's already one small problem with Bryan's birth certificate: it shows the county of his birth, and not the city. they already told us we need to get a new BC with the city, but when we asked for the new one, it still has the county. so I guess they'll have to do with this one anyway.

Now, the tricky thing is that the certified copy of marriage certificate (let's call it certified copy) needs to have an apostille, given by the secretary of state. I went there yesterday, and they told me that first, the certified copy has to be notarized.

So, certified copy + notarized + apostille.... isn't that a little too much just to prove that it is an official document? come on! we don't need three different certifications!

Wow!! I didn't know about having it notarized! Like you said, have it certified plus the apostille should be more than enough!!

So, to make sure, did you send everything and they got back to you, or are you sending everything now?

I sent all my papers but never got a respond yet. I sent my certified copy of the wedding with the apostille (but it isn't notarized!), and my BC was 3 months and half old (so I might need to get a new one, less than 3 months, but I still wanted to give a try with that one...).About my husband BC, it is the one he had at his birth.....so we will see about that one too! they don't say anything about how old this one should be, if I didn't miss that!

Did the french Consulate told you need to have it notarized or someone else? because on the Chicago website, they don't mention it, so if it is the case, I am wondering what's wrong with them?! :bonk:

No, it's the Secretary of State (the ones who will put the apostille) who told me they can't do it until it is notarized. but I think it depends on where you are from. I checked their website and they said that marriage certificates from Jefferson county and St. Louis county have to be notarized, but they don't say the other ones have to be. So I'd say that if they gave you the apostille without any problems, you should be OK.

I haven't sent anything at the consulate yet (except for the 'publication des bans' three months ago). Yesterday was my opportunity to get the apostille because I was in the right area. Now I'm going to have to make extra trips to get it. Or maybe i'll do it by mail. This is a pain in the ***... It almost makes me not want to do the transcription at all... but I guess I'd better do it anyway.

That really sucks!! I am sorry for you! It is crazy to see such differences from a state to another! and it sucks even more with some last minute surprises, especially when you're not so close.

I got my apostille through the mail by the way, and it was pretty fast ( in about a week ).

Good luck to you Cécile!

thanks. I'm not very far from the office, so I could go there whenever I want, but still, the fact that I have to go back and forth doesn't make me want to go anymore. :P

Hey!

Congrats Jeroen! I saw your wedding pictures on your blog, there are beautiful! I hope you guys the best!

Cécile, I'm sorry you need all this stuff for your marriage certificate transcription! Me, I'm like Pam, I just needed the certified copy and get the apostille. The apostille was fast to get. only two days. Like Pam, I gave a 3months and a half old BC, but the guy at the embassy said it was ok...Though, I sent all the papers to the embassy in L.A. a month ago, and still didn't hear anything yet back from them. I'm going to send an email to ask them how long it takes. I'll let you know!

Thanks for letting us know!

Somehow I am pretty impatient to receive my "family book"! I don't really know why... :D

Maybe I should send them an e-mail too because we're not in the same consulate, so the timing might be different.

Maybe it's because it is one more "proof" that we are married, so it's all exciting to see both names together in a book that is going to reflect our family, husband, wife, and then children :)

For everyone else on this thread: Sorry for the French Off Topic... :P

Sorry to carry on this french topic. But the guy from the embassy answered me. He said he got my application and that it takes about 2 months to receive the "livret de famille"!
