Hi all,

I am preparing the DS-230 package ahead of time. My wife went to the local precinct in Hyderabad, India and requested for a Police Clearance Certificate as required by the NVC, but they denied her the certificate saying that they need a written request from embassy or something. If I wait for the letter from NVC and then approach the Police department, then it will delay my wife's visa process. Does anyone know where I can get this "written request?"

Thanks,

Police Records

Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

  • All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office. These are usually more dependable than those obtained at a local level and indicate that the subject had no serious criminal convictions on record at the time of passport issuance. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.

  • Applicants over age 16, whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application, must also obtain a police clearance from the District Police Office serving the applicant's place of residence.

  • Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.

  • Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.

  • Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

Thanks. Indian system is so friggin corrupt that it just frustrates me. I mean what the heck? Why would anyone request a Police Clearance if they do not need it. I know it is hard for many of you to believe but they try to pull this kind of stuff to get some kind of money out of people. The most amazing thing is, they get away with all this.

Hi,

My wife had the same problem. Luckly for her she found the one good cop in all of India (isn't that sad) who actually helped her by advising her to bring in her Packet 3 information. Next day he made copies of her approval letter, page from the packet about police clearance certificate, and copy of her passport. She had the clearance 2 weeks later. Good Luck !!
