I have repeated my view that it is astounding that anyone can so misunderstand the notion of human rights as to believe that they can be found in the bible I repeat it not because of hatred but because I find this totally incredible. What you failed to understand then, and seem to fail to understand now is that the declaration of human rights, unlike religion, is not a belief system so it's not possible to make these, i'll believe what I want to believe claims. That's a fact, not an opinion.

As to religion, I do find organised religion disturbing because of the manipulation that powerful people within church hierarchies have used and continue to use in order control their adherents. However, finding the powerful church organisations disturbing and hating religion and the religious are not synonymous in any way, shape or form. I can unequivocally state that I don't hate religion.

Everyone has the right to believe that the moon is made of green cheese. That doesn't mean others should not be able to say that its ridiculous. The Bible = Human Rights thing is one of those.

Doesn't equate to "hatred for religion". Believe it or not Gary - you don't represent all people with religious views. After all not every Christian believes that a Universal concept of human rights can be derived from the Bible.

I never said I represent anyones beliefs other than my own.

But you did say she "hates religion". Your views on the Bible and Human Rights are your personal views, they are not "religion".

This is a thread about religion in school and not human rights and where they can be derived from. Your poking at it like that was provocative and intended to show your disdain for my views. If you would have just left it with a comment on religion and schools we would not be having this conversation.

I have never, nor will I ever berate anyone for their religious beliefs. The declaration of human rights has nothing to do with christianity which is a concept which appears to be very misunderstood. I will repeat, human rights are not a belief system. Christianity is. Human rights are a concept of expectations and responsibilies that are universtal to all regardless of race, age, sex, culture and religion.

So why did you even bring it up in this thread?

Yes, I was poking at ignorance, because again, I find it incredible that anyone can make the connection that human rights is a belief system. I have not, nor will I berate your christian beliefs. They are nothing to do with me. However, how this applies to this thread is that the poem demonstrates the ignorance that religion can breed if people are allowed to get away with notions like right and wrong are the province of the bible.

Funny, I read the poem and I didn't see the phrase "human rights" once. Your bringing it up here was intended to put me down and that is why I called you out on it.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,

And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.

They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.

To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,

And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.

It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,

We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,

Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,

No word of God must reach this crowd.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

right or wrong, also don't depend on the ten commandments methinks... omg, study witchcraft.. wahahahahahaha...

I have provided all the information of my train of thought the bible is not the source of right and wrong, nor is it the source of human rights. The authors of this poem are promoting ingnorance and hatred. That is not very religious in my book.
