Does anyone have an estimate time frame of how long it takes to recieve the EAD after the biometrics? Do they send a SS card or an approval and then we go to the SS office and get a SS#. Also, is it mandatory for the spouse to be there for the appointment? Our appointment is on Good Friday and I make double time and a half that day. I would prefer not to miss the $$$!

Any insight would be appreciated.

It takes about 60-90 days (from filing) to receive the EAD (standard disclaimer is, sometimes longer, sometimes faster).

You do not automatically receive a SS # or Card - you must go to the SSA office to apply separately - once you receive the EAD (assuming the I-94 is expired).

The USC spouse does not have to attend the biometrics - the whole appointment may take 10 minutes (besides standing in line if it's busy that day).

When we applied, EAD was usually issued before 3 months of the NOA1. Timings might have changed now.

I did not go with my husband for the biometrics (or to get a SSN), so no you don't need to go too.

Try going few days earlier and see if they will let you in..Otherwise, you can re-schedule the appoinment but that will delay your EAD...

When did you get your Biometrics appointment letter in the mail?

Looks like in Tampa we have a long wait to do our FingerPrints..

I received the NOA for the appointment 2/26. I received the NOA's for the I-485 and other petitions about 10 days after I overnighted the package to Chicago on 1/15. So far, I think everything is going pretty smooth. Knock on wood! I was somewhat suprised to receive the biometrics appointment so soon.

As a side note question. When one receives the biometric appointment does that mean we made it through the initial process RFE free? As always I send a very detailed/organized, idiot proof, easy read packet.

It's different for everyone but it's supposed to be about 90 days. I got mine in 2.5 months. I had my biometrics January 3 and I think my card was approved January 23. I received my card February 7th. Not long at all (although don't be surprised if it takes a couple of weeks for your spouse's card to arrive in the mail.)

And no, they don't send you a SS card! Your spouse will have to go to your social security office to get that after your spouse receives EAD.

It is not mandatory for your spouse to be present for biometrics. Mine couldn't come because he had to work. It was pretty boring anyway - just waiting in line to get fingerprints done and a picture taken. lol So I'm kinda glad he didn't have to come.

(Sorry if it is you and not your spouse applying... I couldn't really tell from the original post! But you know what I mean I think!)

Biometrics appointment just means your packet has been accepted. Unfortunately, RFE's are often received after the biometrics.
