Can I bring a bottle of wine to Vietnam?

Yes, you can and they won't tax on you. You even can bring two bottles of wine and jewelry too.

I'm not sure, you might check with their customs office. I took five quarts of whiskey to the Philippines without any problems.

matt- you should pick up a bottle of Henneseys Whiskey at Duty Free on the way. I gave that to my father-in-law and it sits proudly on their 'entertainment center'. In vietnam, it seems whiskey is preferred over wine, at least in my circles...hope this helps!

I always bring 3 bottles of ice wine and the ladies all love it aways declare it and never a problem why not wheare the ring on a necklice???

Oh the memories

I remember before my trip to VN to see my love, and wine was one of the gifts that I needed to give this as a gift at our ceremony. After several conversations about this, I realized that in Vietnam, whiskey is called wine. I bought 2 bottles of Jonny Walker Black Label at the Noi Bai Airport. It was much cheaper than buying it in the US. After buying this I realized my luggage was misdirected. They delivered it the next day.

There is a certain amount of alcohol you can bring into the country or purchase at the duty free shop, and once you exceed that amount, you pay x amount for the amount over the allowable volume.

Nathan broght two bottles of wine and jewelry here without any problem. My family in USA has done that many times and they have no problem so far.

No need to buy them from the US.... MOST Duty-Free shops at all the airports you are going to will have the Cognacs which most vietnamese old folks will be appreciated By them there, carry them in the Duty-Free shopping bags (up to 4 bottles or as many as they allow you to buy)... Custom in VN won't give you any trouble if they see the Duty-Free shopping bags. BUT, all thing in moderation if you try to handcarry 50 bottles of Hennessy XO, hmmmm wait... get me some too

Hi Matt,

Now you've got the Tan Son Nhat experience under your belt. It really is nothing to worry about. Your immigration experience upon departure might take a little longer (i.e. waiting in line) than it did for arrival. Don't lose your yellow departure slip! Things are getting better everyday at the airport here. However, that luggage retrieval experience is still an eye-opener!

I can't wait til they finish construction on the new International Terminal. I loathe getting my luggage everytime.

Wine is starting to gain favor though. Albeit it slowly. Because liquors like whiskey are far more common these days. I was mildly surprised when I visited an uncle and he broke out a bottle of Merlot.
