Original Marriage certificate with CIS

Hello Folks,

The CIS had asked me to send an original copy of the marriage certificate in their detailed RFE to my I-130. I just found out this week that my name check has been cleared (after 3.5 years of waiting) and the case is now transfered to the Baltimore office. My question is, when and how can I get my original marriage certificate? Would they just give it back to me at the interview? Or would they mail it back with or after the green card?

Any one has similar experiences?

We went to the Seattle Court House to get our Marriage Certificate. We took the marriage licence that was signed by the judge that married us, our two witnesses, and ourselves and got the Marriage Certificate in about 10 minutes. I think they were around $20.00 each. You can request as many as you like, but you have to pay for each one.

You should be able to request the original marriage certificate back at your interview. Just make sure you take photocopies of it before you send it in, and take the photocopy with you to give them for your file. They will give you back your original as long as they have a copy.

We were approved without an interview and they sent us the certificate back in the mail.

Did not file anything for getting the certificate back.

Best way, just go back to your City Hall and paid for another copy. What i did before, i paid for the second copy and be done with it. Good luck.

The thing is that they only give a new certified "copy". We had to send the original marriage license.

Hope we get approved without an interview too But the thing is, I hope they send me a permanent GC now because we have been married for 3.5 years now...so if we went for an interview then I would ask them to make sure to send a permanent one.
