I thought it doesn't matter where as long as he was born a U.S. Citizen and didn't have naturalize at a later point.

Requirement for presidency is natural born citizen. But you can be a natural born citizen, being born out of the US if you are born to USC parents. If only one parent is a USC, then there are a set of conditions to be met.

I don't know the details here, but in some cases you aren't natural-born American until your parents sign some papers. Like my friend's daughter. Born in Bulgaria, not American until he filed some paperwork at the embassy.

One of the few things I like about John McCain is that he, like me, is a member of the semi-exclusive fraternity of Americans who were born on foreign soil to two American citizens, and is therefore a natural-born American without being, strictly speaking, a native-born American. The reason this is significant is because Article II, section 1 states that "No person except a natural born Citizen..." can become President. If elected, McCain (born August 29, 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone) would be the first President born outside the incorporated territory of the United States.

Does McCain have a non-USC parent?

So, re: Jenn's post, does that mean the NYT just doesn't know the rules? And that's why they haven't written the story yet?

The NYT is just doing it's old smear tactics again. They failed with the affair with the lobbiest so now they are trying this. Not much media bias here right?

So far the only media that's picked up on the story is the Drudge Report. They're the ones saying "NYT" you know.
