HI EVERYBODY!!!!! I AM WRITING BECAUSE I NEED SOME ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO. MY BOYFRIEND WANTS TO MARRY ME (HE´S AMERICAN CITIZEN AND LIVES IN THE USA) AND I AM HERE IN PERU. I CAME HERE FOR SOME FAMILY MATTERS AND CANT RETURN TO THE USA YET. I DONT KNOW WHICH VISA IS FASTER....THE K1? OR THE K3? HE WANTS TO COME HERE AND MARRY ME IN PERU AND START THE PROCESS ONCE WE ARE MARRIED BUT I´VE HEARD THAT THE K1 VISA IS FASTER AND I CAN BE IN THE USA IN A SHORTER PERIOD???? IS THAT OK?? I HAVE TALKED TO SOME FRIENDS HERE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE K3 VISA TAKES ABOUT2 YEARS AND THE K1 ONLY TAKES ANOUT 6 MOTHS???? PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT TO DO....

First have a look at the Guides here at VJ. You will see in big red letters:

BEGIN HERE. That's the place to start. It gives a comparison of the different visas available.

I'd say yes, the K1 is generally faster than the K3. The K1 is taking about 6 to 8 months from petitioning to visa in hand. The K3 is taking a bit longer, closer to a year.

You may also want to have a look at the CR/1 spousal visa, it's a better visa compared to the K3 in my opinion.

Everything you need is written out in the guides. Read them over with your boyfriend, take a break then come back again.

1-Yes, true K1 is faster than K-3, start saving proof of the relationship, so that you both can support the application.

On the other hand, next time don´t write everything in CAPS, as per US grammar rules you are yelling when you type this way.

Welcome to VJ! I agree with what is said.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Hi Victoria!From what part of Peru are u from!?

My Fiance is from Lima, and im doing the K1 Visa for him, we have an interview date on march 12th it went reallly fast I applied in October and we were approved in February =)

good look in your journey and send the papers ASAP :thumbs:

any questions do not hesitate to ask me i went through the whole process on my own and with the help of fellow visa journey's towards the end! :yes:

Visa I 130 for Step Daughter

Sept 2010-- Getting documents ready. sent BC out for translation.

March 1st 2012-- Sent documents to USCIS

June 15th 2012 EMAIL OF APPROVAL !!

Dec 15th 2012 -- Interview scheduled ( 1-23-2013)

Jan 9th 2013--Medical Exam

I am from Lima....Wow!!! your application was very fast!!!! what part of the USA are you from??? you can help my boyfriend LOL.....my boyfriend is from New York....Good luck with the interview !!!! I cant wait to be with my baby again.... I was checking the different kinds of visas and there is one CR-1 and Direct Consular Filing.....any ideas of those visas???

Well the cr1 is for when u get married it takes a llil longer!

I would do the k1 if i were u ! tell ur fiance..

check the guides for what u guys need! =)
