They cant help that they only hire stupid people.

Its private property and only they can decide what forms of ID they want to accept. If they are chasing out customers, than they can only blame themselves. Las Vegas would have to close its doors if they did not accept a passport as a form of ID.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

My guess is these people didn't know what they were looking at. These people might not have ever seen a U.S. passport let alone from Romania or know Romania is a real country.

In Las Vegas they deal with people from other countries all the time, so they are probably trained to accept foreign passport as ID.

FYI: SSA no longer accepts a foreign passport by itself as primary or secondary ID when applying for an SSN or card.

I'd lay a complaint even if you never step into that place again. It's the principle of the thing but that's my opinion.

Sorry to hear what you went through...sheesh.

write to all the local newspapers and ask them to print your letter. then people will read it and the casino might lose some business. then who's laughing?

Good call! Negative PR is about the only way to effectively "stick it to the man" anymore.

I have one question though..... didn't someone have to check your "ID" at the door? If your passport was good then, why wasn't it good when you were trying to walk off with some of their money?

And like the other posters have said, security guards are about the smartest people in the world.

We had been there twice before and I've NEVER been asked for an ID! There is NO guard standing at the entrance. Also, we've been sitting at the bar and had drinks and no one asked to verify my ID before serving me alcohol ... But somehow, all of a sudden, when we were about to get some of their $$$, they immediately became "aware" of the ABC board rules!

Also, as regards the Romanian passports, they certainly aren't flimsy from a security point of view ... they have a laminated ID page with a bunch of holograms all over it. What was plain pathetic was that, when I showed them that the passport does include some "physical description" on the 2nd page, they said: "humm ... yeah, but it HAS to be on the ID page" (!!!!!!!!!! :bonk: )

Well, right now we're busy making sure that all of our friends/aquaintances/relatives/whatnot ... stay away of their "ultimate establishment offering outstanding customer service"

heheheh.. the casino is within its rights under the law, but not practicing very good customer relations.

Send a stinky letter to the president of sales and/or marketing with a copy to the president of operations. Emphasize your intense embarassment and trauma.

You'll probably get a nice compensation from them, and if not, you've had the opportunity to vent your spleen.

See www.clarkhoward.com for examples of complaint letters that get action.

Miha et.al.,

Unfortunately, the establishment is subject to penalty if it accepts an ID that turns out to be fraudulent, so each establishment is going to set its own rules for what it is willing to accept and use it's own discression in accepting or not accepting any particular ID that may be offered.

While places like casinos want to admit as many people as possible, they are also heavily regulated and subject to pretty stiff penalties for infractions. Maybe this particular place, or the particular security officer, had been burned before and was being exceptionally cautious as a result.

Yodrak

...

At first, we were thinking of looking into making a complaint somewhere ... but then we decided it's not worth the trouble. But guess who won't ever be stepping foot into that darn place anymore? (even after we get my state ID card with the "proper physical description" including my bra size!)

Sorry for the lenght, just had to vent!

ya. unfortunately there are some places that will tell ya that they can't accept id's....

once I was buying some caffeine pills at a gas station for driving.. the lady showed me a sign that said 'only NC DL valid' (yes, yes, little town).. and didn't accept my passport... i think these places can decide what to accept and what not to..
