After reading this topic, I really need your advice. Few months ago I unintentionally made my friend eating cake with dried fruits with alcohol. Those fruits to "gain normal size"again you have to put to rum for about an hour, cut into little pieces, ad to the dough and bake.

Should I tell her about my mistake when I will be in USA again? My concern is about making her worry that she acted disrecpectfully to her believes. :(

I wonder if the Haagen Dazs Bailey's ice cream has any alcohol??? What about Sutter Home pasta sauce?

Many strict Buddhists(ones who have taken the 5 upasaka precepts, which I have taken) and Hindus avoid alcohol and intoxicants but AFAIK the rule doesn't extend to food cooked with small amounts of alcohol, or medicines. However if you drank/ate a large amount with the intent to get drunk, then that would be a vow breakage. For example, my Muslim co-worker told me that she could not take Nyquil because of the alcohol content, but for Buddhists(even monastics) and Hindus there is no prohibition against it - in Buddhism at least the intent is considered more important than the act itself. This thread is very interesting.

Calamitka-- Islam has a lot ot do with intentions. I would not mention it to your friend as she is guiltless according to islam as it was not her intention to imbibe alcohol and she did so without any knowledge. It's something past and in this case "ignorance is bliss." if she had belonged to another religion that didn't have an intentions clause, it may be worth mentioning. Obviously you won't do it again, so no worries. I accidentally blurted out once (without thinking AT ALL) "that could be PORK!" when Ammar ate a meatball, which he didn't even realize WAS meat, at a restaurant (work function he had to attend). He spent the next couple of days saying he felt "very ill" and his "throat hurt" because of the "possible pork."

None of my posts have ever been helpful. Be forewarned.
