I-751 Extension stamp at CHICAGO?

Hello,

I looked around for a definite answer for my question, but could not find one.

Did anyone here successfully receive a second extension stamp at the Chicago office for pending I-751, once their first year extension ran out?

If you did, could you please say what you took along with you? I plan to take the letters from NSC, the letter from Congressman advising a visit to the Chicago office, and the memo about 2nd extension posted on this forum? Any Photographs? Copy of original filing?

Illinois77, have you gone back yet for yours?

Thanks for any insight!

Hello,

I went for my first stamp last week and I hardly got stamp for 2 months. I told them that I work in Sales and my HQ is in Japan and I need to travel, but he gave it to me only for to months!!!!!

After I left, I called USCIS customer service and they told me that Chicago should put stamp for at least 6 months!!! Next time I got there in May, I will not leave without 6 month stamp. I will ask for supervisor and I will call USCIS while there, but I will not be going back there every 2 months!!!!!!

That's my experience......

Thank you guys, for your answers! I have an appointment in Chicago on the day my extension expires (in a couple of weeks). I will post an update after the appointment.

Would be nice it they gave 6 moths. Giving just 2 months, when they know the appls will not be processed in that time, just clogs up the system some more, because most of us will have to go for another appointment.

You may want to bring this policy and procedural memorandum, which is posted on policy memoranda section of the USCIS site: http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/CRextensn120203.pdf. It says that if your NOA1 is expired or "about to expire," you're entitled to either a 12-month I-551 stamp in your passport (if its expiration date is one year or more) or (if you do not have an unexpired passport) an I-94 arrival form with a 12-month I-551 stamp and your photo.

The USCIS is an government agency, and when it issues such policy memoranda, it is obliged to follow them until they are rescinded for some reason.

Take the memo, insist on a 12-month stamp, and if whomever you're dealing with declines, demand to see their supervisor.

Meh

That is a very useful memorandum James! I hope that it can somehow be pinned since so many people are affected by the delays in processing of the I-751.

Thanks again, James and Peter T! I'll let you all know what happens on March 10 at the Chicago office.

Well, on Saturday, my uncle passed away in a third country, making travel an immediate necessity. I managed to get one of the two remaining Monday appointment slots. Chicago does stamp your passport for 2 years, and the officer I saw gave me back my expired greencard as well.

He really did not have an explanation as to the situation with NSC.

It is a bummer - losing one day to get the stamp means one day lost in getting a visa. I might not be able to make it for the funeral :crying:

Sorry about your uncle.

So you got a stamp for 2 years? Wow, those are really big inconsistencies with Chicago. But that's good for you.

Thanks!

I should not have posted when I was so tired! The passport was stamped for one year only. Apologies about giving inaccurate information.
