Leaving US after applying for AOS?

I was wondering if it's doable for me to leave to my home country right after we apply for AOS?

Then when the advance parole is approved, my husband can send the documents to me so I can

travel back to the US. Is that possible?

I just hate to be doing nothing until my EAD is approved, I am seriously going crazy. I entered as a K-1

and gotten married, and about to send in the documents. Is there an easy way so I can go back to my country, doing something productive there, then return once EAD is approved? Or do I have to do everything over if I wanna come back here again.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, for us who entered K1, Advance Parole (besides the Greencard) is our way to go back to our country and be admitted again here in US.

If you leave the US before you have either your advanced parole or your greencard approved and in your hand you will be abandoning your AOS and will be denied re-entry to the US and will then have to file for a spousal visa from your home country....

Do Not Leave the USA without your AP or Greencard in your hand....,

If you leave after filing AOS, USCIS will assume that you abandoned your application. USCIS will either cancel or deny your AOS application. If that happens consequently your AP will be denied. By law EAD will be approved within 90 days from the date that the application was received. So be patient a little bit more.

So what do people do for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 months?

I can't even stand one more day of doing nothing with my life.

I have sacrificed my career for almost 3 years to keep the long distant relationship goin,

and now I feel so trapped and helpless.

Thank you for your quick reply Mae.

You could always do some type of volunteer work at a hospital, nursing facility, or even at a school--I know my son's school is awlays looking for volunteers. It doesn't pay, but it would get you some references for when the time comes to look for the real thing. Just a thought.

I know how hard it is not doing anything especially if you used to be a career worman. I worked for so many years and when I came here, I became a full time housewife because my husband is retired and it would be unfair if he's at home and I'm not. I like it very much, we're always together and we do things together. When did you apply for EAD? Maybe you can try to be a little more patient. Make yourself busy by working at home like rearranging the house? Or read a lot? Or do some blogging? You can try anything to fight boredom. You can even enroll in a fitness center just so you can get out of the house. Or make friends with the neighbors...

Hang in there and I'm sure, in no time you will receive the EAD and will be working.

No offense, but judging by your timeline, you've only just applied for the K1, so you've got a bit of time. If you're talking about being trapped and helpless now, are you happy with the current state of things? Just asking, because the tone of you comments sounds really down :( That's not a good thing.

Part of the reason you can't just go back and forth is that the US gov expects you to act like you want to be here and are commited to the proces and not just someone looking for a GC. Coming here and then immediately returning home isn't going to help you get adjusted to life here either, it might just prolong the agony.

It is scary to move here, far away from home...and geez, I speak english well and come from Canada! No matter how much you are in love with your SO, it's a whole new life here

It was appro 3½ yesterday since I entered the US and I have already gooten the EAD and AP (earlier this week). I just got the GC email yesterday...so things are moving along at a decent pace. many others are finding the same thing.

I looked into volunteering initially, but couldn't find something I liked. I moped around the house after the wedding and cried alot and generally made everyone miserable. It wasn't productive.....I couldn't apply for jobs yet, because no EAD, but I did polish up the resume in preparation for receiving the EAD. I started scrapbooking, reading and playing my fav video game...but all of these only keep you occupied so long, and then I get grumpy. But in the end, I am responsible for amusing myself during the day, my husband and I and the kids go out in the evenings or go for a walk, I make about 5 dinners a week and he does the weekend cooking and cleaning so I'm not always the homemaker. I am really looking forward to going back to work now, but I'll probably look back on these few months and wish I could have enjoyed them more :)

So what do people do for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 months?

I can't even stand one more day of doing nothing with my life.

I have sacrificed my career for almost 3 years to keep the long distant relationship goin,

and now I feel so trapped and helpless.

Learn something new. Teach yourself spanish. Start learning an entirely new field for yourself - chemistry, or geology, or psychology. I'm learning US history - which is actually quite interesting :) And I'm continuing to learn about artificial intellenge. Doing nothing for 4 months is a great way to start doing something new with your life - its an opportunity

If you absolutely have to be doing something, rather than learning, then how about something like knitting? try and knit the biggest scarf ever. Or woodworking. Or buy a forge and get into metalworking

or as the people above said, volunteer. If there's nothing worth volunteering for, start your own effort. get into street level politics. wage a smear campaign against someone already involved in street level politics. :)

the one thing you absolutely, positively cannot do, is leave the county :)

Thank you so much guys hahaha Since I'm in Texas I should learn spanish....no hablo espanol....I took some spanish in HS and of course now I had forgotten all.

I am upset because I wanna get going with my career already. I graduated in May 2005 and now I have just one year of work experience. My friends are managers or on their way to becoming one, finishing off grad school or already have a master in their hands. I have just been focused on my love life that I'm on the opposite direction of where I have always seen myself.

Coming from Bangkok, I'm used to the big city scene. I miss just walking to skytrain or getting on a cab and go places. Getting my hair done, having dinner or meeting up with my girlfriends, go shopping etc. etc. And the food....omg....I miss Thai food. It's just not the same here and I'm weighting what I want out of life.

You guys have pulled this through again and again.....I will also manage to get through this. Will see....thank you for listening, I can't thank visajourney and all of u enough for guiding us this far.

You can still go shopping, get your hair/nails done, travel....

My husband studied English, went to the gym, the dentist, the theme parks, hung out with me when I wasn't working (the best!), and we travelled.

Take advantage of this because soon enough you'll be back at work - wishing you had time off.
