I am not interested in a us-citizenship and applying for a GC every 10 yrs does not bother me.

Yes, I know I can have dual citizenship but .....I had enough paying all those absurd and ridicules fees since I started my K-1 nightmare .No,I'm good staying Canadian !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But citizenship is the only way to put a permanent end to those ridiculous USCIS fees. Yes, it does mean paying one more big fee for the N-400, but it puts an end to the fees for green card renewals, replacement cards if you ever lose your GC, address changes, re-entry permits, and whatever other things they may come up with in the future.

This is a major reason why my husband is applying next month. In the long run, it will be cheaper. He also wants to vote. And he will have his British dual citizenship still.

These are the same reasons my husband plans to file for naturalisation. Dual cit, the right to vote, being DONE with USCIS, no more forms, filings, permits....nothing...nada....finito! As soon as we are able, we plan to move to Canada and do what is necessary to allow me to become a dual cit.

This is how messed up my country's laws are on dual citizenship. If I apply for a U.S. Citizenship I have to give up my Danish citizenship.

If I choose not to become a U.S. citizen but keep my Danish citizenship then once I have children they will automatically have dual citizenship to both the U.S. and Denmark. Even my grandchildren will have a dual citizenship.

But I - born in Denmark by Danish parents - will never be able to have dual citizenship!!

How does that make sense? And who thinks up these immigration laws not only in Denmark but over here as well....the kids that used to ride the short bus to school?

Ah, what a shame! Do people apply be a US citizen because they WANT to? Or rather, that they HAVE to in order to avoid the fees etc.... I suppose at least I have the choice of being dual. I don't care if I am a US citizen or not - so long as I am with hubby! We can always live back in England - not that it would be a sacrifice at all either! I don't really care and that's the most important thing to me!

My husband wants to. Not having to deal with the USCIS ever again is a bonus. Having the right to vote, apply for government jobs, having dual citizenship...those things make it worthwhile for him to naturalise.

I would say people apply for US Citizenship because they are forced to. Having to pay large amount of money in all kind of stupid documents renewal is enough to say –hell with this, waste $685.00 more and I’m done .

I used to but over the last few months, just changed my mind. I don't have the option of dual citizenship and I would never give up my Irish citizenship.

I'm going to apply for dual citizenship (and he will be pursuing the same) so that we can have the flexibility of living in either country without having to worry about immigration. Sue me for not being "patriotic" enough.

I WILL be becoming a US citizen - it doesn't invalidate my Australian citizenship, and it provides a lot more security which could be needed if anti-immigration sentiment gets much stronger... besides, I'm quite happy here and have no particular desire to go 'home' again. (besides, I don't want to have what happened to my mother happen to me... she was an Australian citizen by virtue of her family, and then they decided that wasn't good enough and she had to do the actual ceremony etc and she refused to, so even though she's lived there for 50 years, she's 'not Australian'.) There's no valid reason NOT to do citizenship, and plenty of reasons to do it.

That's how we feel too. We will move to the UK at some point, but you never know what the future holds if we will find we hav eto move back here and we wouldn't want to have to go through all of this nonsense again.

I know many proud Naturalized American Citizens, but when you ask them why did they pursue naturalization, it is for many of the same reasons stated before on this topic. Most of the people on this website didn't come to this country to be an American - unlike those that came in to the US through Ellis Island or those that do the Visa Lottery today. The process or "journey" that most of us have been on was out of love - one of us had to relocate and give up everything to come here. The US Citizen had to give up their privacy and put their life, finances, personal history on display for that person to come here - but we did it out of love.

I was a very proud American before I began this journey, but now going through the tedious process of immigration, it has truly made me rethink my American pride - being put through the ringer when myself and all the thousands of others who have never done anything wrong except fall in love have their feet put to the fire to prove the validity of their relationship. I am especially tired - just as tired as my husband is, of this whole process, and if I can take a little step to eliminate this crazy process that we have subjected ourselves to for more than 4 years - then HELL YEAH! I'm going to have him apply for citizenship! And dammit, I'll be there waving that flag the day he takes his oath - party and all - I even want to do it at Disneyworld (if they do it again) - and this American will be proud to say, "Thank God it's over!"

No I was reacting to one of your previous posts :

What surprises me the most is that people just got feed up with USCIS/FBI and all their nonsense ####### and therefore the only escape is getting the US Citizenship.

Before it used to be more be more like a personal pride of being an American citizen but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore .

Well...whatever works for you guys !!!
