Look, here is my point. I understand that the talk show host was using his middle name as a way to slam him. I agree that it wasn't right.

There, finally. Was that so hard?

The host clearly sought to slam Obama and now he's getting slammed for it. I'd say that's fair game. After all, if the host can't stand the heat, he should have stayed out of the kitchen. ;)

McCain is a pretty stand-up guy for disavowing this. I wish someone would stand-up on the left and critisize Pelosi and Reid for doing the same as the talk show host. Obama is silent about it cuz he is getting traction out of it. By the way isnt he the poster child for "bringing people together" More sunlight comin at you Obama fans.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

He is. I said so very early on in this thread. McCain acted like a statesman and a gentleman on this one. Just as we should expect from a person looking to move into 1600 Penn Ave.

I think Obama should have recognised it publicly also. His silence should be noted here.

More like a good solid case for being a hypocrit!

Or maybe just a solid case of sarcastically taking your bait.

In a statement, Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said that McCain's remarks were appreciated: "It is a sign that if there is a McCain-Obama general election, it can be intensely competitive, but the candidates will attempt to keep it respectful and focused on issues."

I don't know. I really don't think Obama needs to publicly address it. By doing so, he would probably lend merit to it.

McCain did the right thing and his response has probably turned the entire thing into a positive for his campaign. It's not very often that "right thing" and "campaign" are used together in such a way.

That kind of came across as a dig at Hillary.

The differerance is a "spokesperson" than the actual candidate saying it. Spokes people get less coverage. The recognition of it is still goo though.

She used Rodham when hubs was governor but then dropped it because the men of Arkanasa jsut couldn't handle such new-fangled ideas like a woman keeping her name. She picked it up again some time in the mid-nineties.

There is obvious sexism within this post.

I'm not sure that's the case at all. He didn't initiate this - but what are his choices?

To ignore it, or to get mired down in a pointless debate about his name? All of which detracts from actual campaigning.

You totally understand what I meant. Just admit it. Sheesh.

For sure. "Spokeperson" is also a VERY loose term that the media likes to use. Sometimes they'll call a campaign office and the person who answers the phone ends up unknowingly making a pseudo-official statement for the campaign. Either way, the candidates need to make sure that it doesn't happen, as it does reflect poorly on them.
