Someone was talking here about long version of the birth certificate. Mine is the short one, but it states: my birth date, place of birth, names and occupations of my parents (when I was born). Is that going to be enough or do they want to know where my parents were born as well? I am confused!

Short and long do not necessarily refer to the size of the paper but more the information provided. Typically, when you see it referred to on this site it means the following:

Short = Incomplete parental information

Long = Complete parental information

YMMV

In the instructions sent from the embassy they say: the birth certificate must be presented for each person named in the application and must state date and place of birth and names of both parents.

How do you interpret that? My name and place of birth plus names of both parents or also my parent's birthdays and places they were born.

Are you the USC or the foreign beneficiary? If you're the USC, it is not your birth certificate the embassy wants....it is the foreign beneficiary, the applicant whose BC is necessary. At the consulate stage of things, the fiancee fills out a visa application....at the interview, he/she presents documents attesting to his/her identity, among other things. The consulate is not concerned w/ the USC's itentity verifying documents.

Good luck,

-P

I am the foreign beneficiary. I am going to the interview on Monday and I am only worrying about my version of the BC because someone has posted sth about the long version of the BC. Do you know if they are looking for my parents dates of birth also or just their names? I have read the instructions over and over again and they weren't too specific about what kind I should bring.

The long and short birth certificates are concerned with U.S. birth certs. You should check if your country has different types of birth certificates.

The 'short' form of birth certificate only lists your name, date of birth and place of birth; the 'long' form also includes your parent's names. You should be fine.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Actually I have in front of me mine Polish full version of BC and it includes date and place of my parents birth.

I think it might be a problem if you have short version. At Warsaw anyway, dunno in Dublin. Why not play safe.

Ask someone(mam,dad) to go to urzedu cywilnego where you were born. Mine was ready in 10 minutes, and ask for overnight shipment to you.

Good luck on interview :)

I forgot - you need certif. translation.

In Warsaw you wouldn't.

Don't panic it is doable.

Tomorrow morning USC,after express translation, Pocztex or DHL and by saturday you get it.

Not sure how it is in Ireland, but in Warsaw they ask for the full "long" version of the birth certificate. Also make sure to bring the long full version with you to the US, because that is the version you will need for AOS.

Good luck on your interview!

Well, its probably to late to obtain a new birth certificate before your interview Monday. So you gotta go with what you got. I'm sure it would be fine as long as all your other papers are order, but no one here is on the interview panel. Best of luck to you. I think we see an approval post on this thread come Monday.

My mom has aleady sent me the long version (she had to get it for me in Poland since I live in Ireland) but I won't have time to get the certified translation! Well... I found that error too late.

Thank you for your support.

I will let you know on Monday how it went.

My fiance has surprised me yesterday and said he's coming over to Ireland on Saturday to be with me at the interview. The best present ever! We haven't seen each other since the beginning of January.
