What a great website! I am heading down to see my fiance in two weeks in Mexico, is there any opinion on getting married now in Mexico and applying for the K-3 for our eventual move to the US...or should I just start the K-1 as I will be returning to the US to work until June. I was just wondering if there are any advantages to the K-3? I have got all the paper work ready to mull over for the K-1, I am mostly thinking timewise is either faster? thanks buggylifer

I would advise you to call the USCIS first to find out if K3 visas are still available. I've read a lot of posts where people are saying that applications for K3 visas after July were being cancelled and processed as CR1/IR1 visas.

I believe your decision will be based on whether you want to get married and then be apart or if you want to be apart now and then, once you're married, you'll be together. Everyone's priorities and circumstances are different. I believe you and your SO should make a list of pros and cons for both options and then see which option suits you best.

Whichever route you'll choose to take, all the best of luck!!!! :star:

Thats the same dilema we had.....but from what I understood sometimes being married may complicate things a little bit more. For instance, I would hate being married and living alone for 8 months!!!! GOOOOODNESS!!!!

We finally decided to opt for the k1 after talking with many friends in this site...it seems to be that they suspect less about fraudulent marriages if you actually ask them permission to get married there....actually it even makes the change of status and the removal of conditions easier in the future because you cared going to the K1 first....so those were our key points for deciding on K1 basically. Good luck in every path you choose!!!

I HATED being apart from my boyfriend - and then fiance - so I figured being apart from my husband would be worse. Like many others, I didn't want to spend the first months to a year of my marriage living in another country. Also, I preferred to get married in the U.S. so my family could attend. It all worked out  .

I hated the idea of going through the visa process without the commitment of marriage and preferred to marry in China where my wife's family could participate. They had no chance of coming to the USA for a wedding.

I suggest you make your life decisions first and then embark on the visa process that best matches them.

The K-1 was faster for us. So, we went with it.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip
