You don't just get comments like "she or he is just after the greencard" from people in the US... some people in your home base is just as ignorant. I have heard people ask me if i just want to be in the US and i have heard advise like "america is not the answer to everyone's dreams".. mostly these comments are from people who don't really know me coz those who really do know me know that I do love my SO, love him enough to change my mind in marrying a white guy and going to the US. I don't need my fiance to go to the US, i could apply as a special education teacher if I really want to but I never did want to go to the US.. at least not till i fell in love with my big bear. :luv:

Actually, supposedly people here "who just care" are done with those "america is not the answer to everyones dreams type of advise"... they are not harping on my SO's 3 divorce and they are saying they are worried I would be my SO's 4th divorce etc. etc. blah blah blah... GEE, I'm already 30, i'd be 31 by July, i have been a single mom for 8years already and my relationship with my SO is not something that happened in a flash. Our relationship is almost 3years now. I think I am not a kid who can't think for myself and I think more than 2years is more than enough for me to honestly decide if he is the guy that I really want to spend my life with. And I think my SO deserves credit for wanting to go through re-marriage counseling with me prior to our wedding... we actually do some marriage preparation thingys on our own from time to time. We are both more accepting of our faults and we are more willing to change and we have both realized the importance of letting God take center stage in our relationship and I think that is most important.

Ignorant comments maybe irritating but then, this is my life and my happiness, im taking full responsibility of my decisions.

some men find that attractive!!!

First of all, Kid Brooklyn, your type is the reason I gave up on American men...I found a polite, caring gentleman...in England...one that didn't care that I had a career, or my own opinions, that accepted and respected me for the way I am, sometimes silly, sometimes intense, never a doormat, but completely and totally in love with him...

I have never dated an American man and I don't think I ever will.I have a lot of fun with my pals at work, but I don't think I would ever want to date them.

I knew that I was going to get responses from American women on here who took offense. I didn't mean ALL women are like this. I should have said "From my experience, many American women..."

On another note, something I find funny is when people ask you about your SO and you tell them they live in a different country. Then they get this weird look on their face and say "I could NEVER do something like that, I couldnt be away from my SO for that long!" I so wish I could say "then you must not love them as much I love my SO, because I am either with him long distance or I don't have him in my life and that's not much of a choice!"

(L) i couldnt have said it better myself :)

he has been divorced 3times and i made him realize that it was not entirely his american ex-wives fault... unless he learns to accept the fact that he had contributed to the failure of those marriages, it doesn't matter what race he chose to marry next, he'd still meet the same failure because it is not the race of your partner that matters in marriage but the 2 individuals involved who truly determines marriage success or failure.

You are a wise woman. I volunteered with a group that provided divorce recovery counseling for a few years - and this was one of the most important lessons to learn: Accept your own contribution to the relationship's failure, learn from it, and grow from that experience so the same mistakes are not made again. Knowing that you have discussed these things with your man, and his understanding that he does need to learn from his past choices, gives me great hope that this is the last wedding for both of you. Hats off!

And So It Begins......

Yes, I agree with what you said. I am an American man, and I have a foreign fiancee and we are doing the K-1 visa. I know she feels uncomfortable that people think of her as a gold digger, and that she's using me to come to the US, which couldn't be any further from the truth. Nobody has, or will in the future, disrespect her in front of me, because they know how I'll react, but I know they talk behind our backs.

American women don't like foreign women actually treating a man with respect and being good wives. They put tgem down for it. They don't want men to know what it's like to have an respectful wife. Wow.......I see the same BS lies are pretty much the same no matter what country you are from.

I was actually thinking it may have more to do with HIS attitude towards American women.

Me too,I can just see it now.

I guess make that three!

Seems Kid got a run of the mouth and forgot that there are USC women on here also. Its people like him who make up rumors like that, that later on spread and run in other countries (Like the green card rumor runs here).

Kid - what do you say to all the women who decided to look abroad for their men, cause they thought all American men were a bunch of lazy a$$holes and didn't know how to treat a real lady?

Touche!

I had a friend tell me that there is no way that my fiance could be faithful to me. He said that more likely than not, he had a girl on the side who was there to "satisfy him" and a whole bunch of other nonsense. Mind you, he was talking about his own countrymen  nevermind that he cheated on his girl when she only lived 10 hours away.

Why does distance equate to cheating?

I told him to STFU
