cleaning dishwasher with lemonade powder?

I washed all of my salt & pepper shakers last week and the dishwasher reeks of pepper still. I thought I saw on tv or read somewhere that putting some powdered lemonade into the dishwasher will get rid of the smell. Anyone try this before? I found a site where they say it works. What do you think?

Lemonade can be used for:

• Diswasher cleanup. Periodically, (maybe monthly) substitute lemonade mix for standard dishwashing power and then run the mix through your empty dishwasher. "The citric acid will dissolve gunk and hard water buildup," according to WW magazine.

• Barbeque prep. Tenderize meat with a lemonade mix before grilling.

• Hair clarifying mix. Rinse your hair with water mixed with lemonade powder to remove dirt and grease…Follow up with a standard shampoo & rinse.

• Stain remover: Make a thick paste from lemonade mix and water. Apply the paste to your hands in order to eliminate berry stains from hands.

Never tried it but I can't see what it would hurt. It should just dissolve and leave a nice lemonade smell, which is what you wanted anyways :)

I dunno about lemonade, but I know baking soda works wonders to eliminate odors....

Pour 1 cup of Baking Soda into the dishwasher and run it through the rinse cycle. It will help get rid of some of the grime that collects on the inside of the machine, as well as freshen the smell of the dishwasher.

I use lime to tenderize meat, since forever.

Also I used to make a mix with oatmeat, sugar and lime to use at my face when I waas a teenager, like a scrub thing, you know? Used to work great.

cool nessa!

so I'm doing the oven cleaning today and I found this online

1. Add baking soda to a cool oven.

Sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda onto the bottom of the oven. Make sure the oven is completely cool before you attempt to do this.

2. Spray the baking soda with water.

Using a spray bottle, spray the baking soda down until it is damp, not saturated. The water and baking soda together will help break down the food particles.

3. Continue spraying baking soda as it dries out.

4. Every few hours spray the baking soda down again to keep it moist. Continue this process over several hours, spraying water as the baking soda begins to dry out.

Scrape out the baking soda.

Scrape the baking soda out of the oven. Food residue will be scraped out with the baking soda.

5. Rinse the bottom of the oven out thoroughly.

Yes, you'll still have to rinse out the oven, but next time you cook your food won't have an added taste of oven cleaner.

Anyone have a better suggestion?
