So sorry to hear that. They just straight out denied emergency AP? Did you have some sort of documentation from Morocco?

Recently we tried to get Emergency AP for his sisters surgery for cancer but they didn't consider that an emergency since he had other brothers and sisters there. So I guess with her death, they may consider it emergency enough, however, they don't do approvals in the office and we have to mail it to Missouri and we may get it in about 2 weeks. 2 weeks is too late to make if for the funeral.

I hate this.

Again, I'm so sorry for your loss, but what the heck are they thinking??? Like anyone gets a 2 week notice for an "emergency"... HELLO! That why it's called an emergency! I just really don't understand the process behind our government most of the time.

We've been waiting 11 months for AOS to be approved. Infopass last week said the namechecks are completed and biometrics completed. Our congressman representative is trying to get an answer for us to see if we can get emergency AP right now. Our local office said that we have to mail in our emergency AP request and if they approve it, we will get it in the mail in 2 weeks.

I feel so helpless and my husband is so upset. He wants and needs to be with his family now.

I know that there are some offices that approve the AP on the spot but ours will not. I hate this situation and I hate this feeling of waiting for someone else to decide if it's ok for my husband to be with his family and to attend his sister's funeral.

I'm just feeling sad and helpless...

I'm sorry for your loss. (F)

You can do emergency AP at an infopass for a situation such as this. INFOPASS I've read here on VJ of the AP being issued same day for emergency situations. Although they'll want some proof or something of the emergency, so be sure to bring something with you, other than just saying what happened.

Also, please fill in your timeline :)

Edited: I just posted and noticed your above post, that you already tried AP. Maybe try to go to a bigger USCIS office to schedule the infopass. I know that like in Chicago infopass can be done at various offices, but only 1 downtown location has authorization to issue an emergency AP.

We did drive to Chicago and they told us that we aren't in their territory so they couldn't help us. I guess there are 2 offices that I can go to. One is 2 hours away and one is 4 hours away. Chicago is 3 1/2 hours and they can't help us.

I made an infopass appointment on this web site http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis and took along a copy of my mother's death certificate and they were able to issue me an emergency parole on the same day. I also needed to show my receipt for AOS and they wanted 2 photographs. I had to fill in the AP form again at their office.

Just to update, we called our congressman's office and they tried to get Des Moines to issue an emergency AP same-day. Des Moines doesn't have the equipment to print the right papers to issue the AP so the only other office we would be able to go to is Omaha. Our congressman's rep called them and they said that they won't do Iowa's paperwork. She asked if they would at least make an exception in this case and they said no.

My sister-in-law's funeral was 2 days ago so my husband has missed that. We can file for an emergency AP in Missouri and the soonest it may be approved is 2 weeks.

The good news is that we have had movement on our AOS and now it is being transferred back to Des Moines from CSC to have a standard interview. According to our congressman's office, we should have an interview sceduled in May. Since the namechecks/biometrics are completed, we should have the green card soon after if all goes well with the interview.
