Hi, Can someone give me a run-down on what type of document is needed to be signed by the biological Father in order to take a child from Colombia to the US? We were told by a notaria here in Cali that all is needed is a copy of the father's and mother's cedular ID, and birth certificate.

My wife lives in Cali Colombia. I am living in Colombia for now with her and with her 7 year old daughter. We just started our CR-1 visa process and are trying to get the father of the girl to sign the document but he continues to refuse to work with us. We have talked with Bienestar Familiar, but the laws here are so loose that amazingly nothing seems to be in our favor. Just now we have heard that they have a type of "judge" here in Colombia that would sign for us because of the situation.

The father of the girl has had little to do with her, he does not financially support her or spend much time with her, maybe 2 hours on a Saturday, but only when is convient for him.

He had put my wife in the hospital with a broken nose in 2005 when she refused to be with him. Non the less we need the document signed by him to take the girl with us to America. We are willing to give him summer visitation and holidays (not that he would spend this time with his daughter) and we are also willing to free him of any future financial responsibilities. This is incredaible that we would have to negotiate these things...

Does anyone have advise for us as to what if anything can be done and done soon? Thanks

Have you asked this question in either of the Colombian threads here on VJ. There are many members there who had to deal with bringing their SO's children to the US and they may be able to help.

Yes go to Colombia club and ask, I know we needed a document that was verified in Bogota as we did the letter here in the US at the Embassy from Colombia. DAS will not let the chid out if the appropiate paper is not signed. Please go here and also post the question as Diana said MANY of them have gone through this and have better information.
