Promised update - Relieved Mom

Hi everyone. Thanks again for all the good wishes and prayers for my daughter. We got the results of the MRI today and it wasn't a mini-stroke. She has a ruptured disk in her neck, we will go saturday for an evaluation for physical therapy.

The week has been rough but we are now on the upswing...I think. She had the MRI monday and ended up having a fairly serious allergic reaction to the contrast media. Her doctor treated her for the reaction on Monday shortly after the MRI, and her symptoms mellowed that night but came back with a vengance tuesday and we ended up in the ER. They put her on prednisone and by yesterday that appeared to be effective, but then last night her symptoms seemed to be worsening again. This morning she was in pain and sick again, but with some new symptoms. I took her to her doctor again and found she now was having a reaction to the prednisone. FUN FUN...NOT. She's not taken it today and now seems to be improving. At this point she is only taking benedryl and I'm hoping she'll be nearly back to her normal self by tomorrow.

Despite how rough the week has been I am grateful that the MRI didn't show what we were concerned about or anything worse.

Yeah it is a huge relief. I know it's another health issue but I know it can be quite manageable. I myself have 3 ruptured disks in my neck which were recently diagnosed. Although I had severe pain and had lost sensation in my left hand, by the 2nd physical therapy session I felt normal again and the pain and numbness have not returned.

If I felt that good that fast I feel fairly certain things will go well for her

BTW it's amazing how often I find myself saying ruptured dicks instead of disks

Thank you, it is a huge relief. My daughter is 16 years old the possibility of a mini-stroke was very frightening but whew.

As for the "ruptured #######" well...it's already slipped out...er um come out ...er umm well you know...when I least expected it to!

They are going to try to manage it with physical therapy for now rather than surgery in hopes we won't have to resort to surgery. I know for mine it's been very effective so far, so hoping she will respond similarly. We were laughing today as I set up her appointment, I ended my therapy a couple of weeks ago and here I am back again...they just can't get rid of me!
