Does anyone here have transition lenses? I'm getting new glasses wednesday and was thinking of getting these so I don't have to wear the clip-ons during the summer BUT I'm afraid that they'll be dark while indoors too since the lighting is so bright in here. Does it differentiate between outside light and inside light? :help:

I have transition leanse in my glasses... I like them... I never notice them going dark when I go outside but they do.... it can take a few mins for them to lighten when you go inside but it is no problem....

It is the UV rays that activate the darking... so unless you have a sunbed lights in you home or office they will not go dark inside....

I still need sunglasses for driving as you are not outside and they dont darken in the car....

My dad had them and they do get dark outside so they will do their job as sunglasses but when you walk back inside, they have a darker shade of gray/brown depending on what color you get. They never go back to clear and yeah, they look weird.

Mine do clear back within 3-5 minutes. At that point, it looks no different from normal lenses. One thing, transition lenses are more expensive than normal ones.

I have them and whilst they are useful I have found two things irritating. One is that even in cloudy bright light, they go dark which does look weird.

Also, I would NOT buy them from Lenscrafters. I have had four pairs from there, all originating from the original ones I bought. The lenses seem to lose their coating after 6-12 months and I ended up with light areas on both lenses such that when I returned to the store to complain they accused me of putting some kind of chemical on them. I am now on my fourth pair of lenses and this time instead of the coating having light patches, all around the outside of each lens has little white flecks and is obscuring my vision. A few of my friends have had similar experiences within the first year of wearing these lenses from Lenscrafters but the store refuses to accept they have some kind of problem in the manufacturing process.
