It's been so long since I've been here that I honestly can't remember who's applying for what.

In any case I'd advise anyone married to a Brit to check both sets of divorce laws. There are some definite stingers in British divorce law, one in particular that had the potential to screw me royally. In my case, Texas divorce law worked out to my advantage so that's the jurisdiction I chose. Just waiting on the final settlement doc to come back from him so I can prove it up in court and be done with him once and for all.

I've been back in America since late June and it's the best thing I ever did. No regrets. None. B)

Oh, I don't know; I got plenty of triumphant "I told you so's" when my marriage ended. Not saying who from; they know who they are.

Incidentally, the divorce is still pending but we're near to the end. We're not looking to screw one another financially, which is good because there's a substantial amount of payola involved. Luckily I persuaded him to do the divorce in Texas, so he can't ask for spousal support even though I make twice what he does.

I'd advise LisaD to NOT do a divorce in the UK.

There's life afterwards, by the way. I'm now engaged to someone else; the wedding is later this year.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree. H_A offered very helpfull advice, and a note of hope for anyone going through a breakup.

Anywhoo...you're right, this is about Lisa. I hope she's doing well. I went through a bad breakup myself before I met Justin, I can also say there's hope and happiness ahead, if you face it with a positive attitude, use the opportunity to get to know yourself more, and learn from the experience. Exactly the attitude that Lisa has towards this. So I know she's got some sunny days ahead

uhm nope, i knew the nature behind H_A post to Lisa, and she proved me right when she PM'ed me and admitted she posted what she did bc she felt she had to get back at Lisa. so.....no, i wasnt kidding.

Maybe H_A felt justified! As I read it, it appeared H_A thought that someone else had taken the first jab, and anyway, let's not forget that LisaD opened up this whole line of discourse herself with the preamble she wrote. Frankly, I feel for her emotional turmoil for whatever clandestine reasons that LisaD's journey is over. Can you say "drama"? (I used to chuckle when she'd imply that I always tried to have the "last word" and I thought, "Wow, that's a backhanded compliment, if ever I heard one")

Notwithstanding, I thought LisaD's veiled insult directed at anyone that she thought it might apply to was really out of line, distasteful and rather rude. However, it's said that some people partake in "projection" so I just chalked up her comment to that.
