Ants....How to get rid?

Back home I used special chalk (I don't remember the brand name) to prevent them from coming in the house, you just draw lines wherever you don't want them to get in and they won't cross that line for some reason. But you need to re-apply it everytime after you scrub/mop your floor. It's quite effective, it even repels roaches and other insects, probably walmart has it.

The only thing that's helped me with ants was to call my friendly pest control company and have them spray. Its $35 a month and they spray every 30 days.

Thank you all for your advise and I'll try and find some of the stuff you suggested. Though I need to be careful with sprays one because we have 5 pets....and 2 myself and my dad are chronic asthmatics. My mum put vinigar on the table after reading in a magazine ants don't like it....didn't work though...they just run around faster and feast of that....

The chalk was made of Borax. Borax is known to create a barrier that the ants won't cross. However, you have to know where they are coming in at in order to put some down. It's a cheap fix, but again, you gotta know where to put it down, and I really wouldn't recommend it for pet areas.

We use Taro. It's like $2.39 at Ace hardware for a bottle that will last you years. It's a small bottle, but you only need small amounts. You put it on the cardboard provided and place in a place where you've seen the ants. Word of caution.. they will SWARM around it before they die off so don't put it somewhere you want the ants to be. Try to find the entry point or an out of the way spot (we always do the windowsill as I know they are coming in there.) The key is to get it where they will find it. They'll eat the poison bring it back to their nest and kill the rest of the nest. Again, though, it's not pet friendly. We only get ants in our bathroom so we just keep the door closed while we are using the poison. Basically you'll see them swarm around the poison (and actually see more ants than before) then they will die off and taper off. I swear by the stuff.

You can also spray around your house. We use Home Defense. It's for the outside only. Treat your yard, there's all sorts of stuff you can get.

OR you can suck it up... those tiny ants mostly come inside during the spring and will taper off on their own as well. (I just think they are disgusting and have to kill them right away!)

we had a few ants in our bedroom coming from the 2 windows, but they were only there for a short while and at the first sign of spring...Now they're gone, we don't see them anymore and i doubt it's because of the stuff my husband put there (some ant killer he bought).. All this did was kill the ones that were there already, it didnt' prevent any from coming..

But if they're out of control and no matter how many you kill they still come, you need to get professional help. My mother in law had alot in her home, it ws soooooooo nasty, but she finally brought someone last yr to kill them and so far it's good... we just have to wait for this summer to come so we see how efficient tha was
