My husband finally received his green card in the mail yesterday.

He received his social security card about 3 years ago, but it says "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION".

What does this mean?

And do we have to go to our local Social Security office to get it removed?

Timeline:

March 22, 2005 - Sent in Petition for Fiance Visa (i-129f)

March 29, 2005 - Had to resend petition (insufficient stamps)

April 8, 2005 - Attempt #3 sending Petition (is there an unknown conspiracy against me? i put $3 worth of stamps and it's returned to me)

April 21, 2005 - Received Receipt for k-1 visa (NOA #1) receipt was dated 4/11/2005

May 2, 2005 - Received NOA #2 (finally these people are getting their act together)

May 12, 2005 - Found out that NVC sent in my petition and all that good stuff to Korea on May 4, 2005 (i can't express into words how happy i am)

June 16, 2005 - Looked up our case number online to check our interview date..and our number was there!!!

Our case interview will be on July 14th 2005!!!

July 14, 2005 - Interview. and it was a....SUCCESS!!!!!

July 21, 2005 - My fiance and I are in the US of A FINALLY!! We have 90 days to get married.

September 21, 2005 - Coincidentally, we got married exactly 2 months after.

September 23, 2005 - Starting the Adjustment of Status and EAD process.

He has to go the the local Social Security office and show his green card, they will issue a brand new, same number, card w/o the legend mentioned above

06/05/10 Real GREEN Card RECEIVED!

01/17/13 Sent application for US Citizenship!!!

01/19/13 Arrived to Arizona Lockbox

01/24/13 Notice of Action

01/25/13 Check cashed

01/28/13 NOA received by mail and biometrics letter mailed as per uscis.gov

02/14/13 Biometrics appointment

03/18/13 In-line for inteview

Hmmm. My guy's SS card doesn't have any such language (he got it in January). Did the SS office mess up?

03/29/2008 - Mailed AOS packet to Chicago registered mail

04/04/2008 - Delivered to Chicago Lockbox

04-10-2008 - Check cashed!

04-12-2008 - NOA1s arrive for AP & AOS

04-18-2008 - Biometrics appt letter arrives

04-29-2008 - Biometrics appointment!

04-30-2008 - AOS status shows up online

05-16-2008 - AP status shows up online - both AP & AOS are touched!

06-05-2008 - AP touched and email sent saying AP has been approved

06-12-2008 - AP arrives in the mail

07-10-2008 - Interview letter arrives - interview scheduled for 09/05/08

09-05-2008 - Interview in SF (don't bring your cellphone!) -- approved! Email sent saying card has been ordered!

MY SS CARD SAID THE SAME THING WHEN I GOT IT. BUT THAT WAS BECAUSE WHEN I GOT IT I ONLY HAD A WORK PERMIT.

NOW WITH THE GREEN CARD YOU CAN GO CHANGE IT.

Aug 05, 2011~ Oath taking at 1pm

December 7, 2007 - Received all 3 NOA's for AOS, AP & EAD

December 10, 2007 - Received letter for biometrics appointment

January 2, 2008 - I-485 transferred to California

January 3, 2008 - Biometrics
