When should we get the passport stamp?

My husbands extension letter expires on May 20th of this year. We plan on a weekend roadtrip to Canada May 8-11th. I'd kind of like him to go to the Cleveland office before the visit to Canada, to get the stamp out of the way, BUT I don't want him to waste his time and have them say he's too early. But if he went sometime between May 1st and 7th, he'd only be going 20 days or so early. Is that too early?

Also, let's say he does want to go May 1st or so. When should he make the infopass appointment?

Thanks

Ps. Luckily for us we live 20 min from Cleveland so it's not as bad as those that live 1 or more hours from their local offices. I feel bad for those that do!! It's still a pain though, because he'd have to miss a few hours of work, and pay to park downtown etc.

I think (but mind you, I am crazy); that you could go ahead and make the appointment; bringing your NOA1 and explaining you have a vacation planned yada yada yada. It should not be a problem.

Peace, L.

Agreed. If you call to make the appointment, ask them *when* is a good timeframe for getting the stamp. This way you won't risk being too early, although why doing it now would be too early. Then again, this IS the USCIS.

When you call though, you aren't speaking to your local office though right? So how do they know what Cleveland is going to say when he actually goes there, etc. I guess there is no right answer to my question though, since the USCIS has no standards!!!

Memo

thanks so much for this...

According to this A temporary I-551 stamp with a 12-month expiration date in the conditional resident’s unexpired, foreign passport (if the expiration date of the passport is one year or more);, how come Chicago would give a stamp only good for 60 days? I saw this in your other post...
