My fiancee got his packet from the Consulate this week. They are asking for copies of things like birth certificates, divorce papers, etc. (and his passport, which I do not believe is a copy... they want the REAL THING???). They say nothing about the copies being "certified" and they do not say they must be translated either (like they required on the I129-F application I did). They also ask for a "receipt" from the CIB Bank for $100.00 US. Do they mean the bank accepts payments??? The payment is not given to the consulate or embassy??? How weird???

They also sent him forms that are out-dated. Should he complete their outdated forms or do it online on the latest edition of the forms?

I am a bit surprised they want copies of his children's birth certificates since they are not travelling with him. If all of these documents must be translated it will take a WHILE....

They are asking for a medical exam from a doctor on the "attached sheet", but I don't see any attached sheet with names or a form for the doctor to complete. (Maybe the docs have the forms in their office???)

In closing, is there anywhere a person can phone or email to get these questions answered from an "official" source? Does the Consulate in Cairo take phone calls? (or would I go broke on hold...)

Thanks for any information.... My fiancee is in Alexandria in case anyone has a list of the official doctors there and would be willing to share the names/phone numbers.

Karamella

P.S. I just got home from being there with him for 2 months, wouldn't you know the stuff came the week after I left... :(

Here is the medical information and it has the doctor's info attached...my fiance utlized the physician in Alexandria w/no problems. I would suggest emailing the consulate directly at ConsularCairoIV@state.gov - my fiance gave them certified copies of his birth cerficate and just copy of the passport. The original is typically asked for at the interview, however not always...The fee is paid directly to the bank......there is a new fee...133 I believe...but I am sure others will recall the exact amount....my fiance did translate his medical and birth certificate....others w/more experience than I suggested at least having the birth certificate translated....Good luck!!!! According to the email I recieved from the Embassy, documents do NOT HAVE to be translated for this interview. However, you WILL need them to adjust status once he is here. You should send only a photocopy of all the documents and keep the originals to take to the interview. On each document, write the statment "originals available upon request" and your case number. The passport is ONLY a copy of the first two pages. Do NOT send the passport. CIB is the name of a bank. he is to go there and pay them 131 us dollars. They will give him a receipt . This receipt MUST go in with the packet 3 information. He does need to have birth certificates of his kids and MAYBE proof that he has no intentions of taking them with him. I"d have him get a letter from the mother stating they will be remaining with her..and take to the interview with him. (Notorized) Just my thought. They will accept those forms....however we chose to do ours online and print them that way. The best way to reach the consulate is through their email. For the medical...the above posting is accurate with who does it. The doctors DO have the forms needed to complete. My SO had to go get labs done then had his medical a week later.

It would help us all to support you if you'd fill in your timeline. Good Luck to you.

Thanks for all the information.

The form specifically says "a passport for each applicant", not a copy of the first 2 pages, which seems a lot more reasonable to me... but I hate to have him do something that will slow this down (like send the copies when they want the original)....

It says specifically $100 not $133... Wonder if the price went DOWN? How long ago did you do yours?

A letter from the kids Mom notarized by whom????? I think that's a good idea, however I'm not sure she will do anything to help him with this....

Thank goodness no translations are needed at this time. That was a big nightmare during the I-129F process for us...

Thanks again,

K

Karmella,

here is the site that tells you the fee went up in January of 2008 from $100 to $131 USD. You pay the CIB Bank before mailing in your packet 3 and you include your original receipt in the packet. Make some copies for your records.

New Fees

As for as copies or original it is best to email the embassy yourself and go with what they tell you when they respond to your email. They did tell some the copy of the passport was all that was needed and then bring original to interview. But like you I read it where it did not say copy and I sent my fiancee original passport.

We were told any documents in arabic should be translated into English for Embassy and AOS. So we translated all forms.....birth certificate........military certificate.......police record. We had all done and had two of each so we would have one for AOS too. It was not very expensive to translate and the translator only took one day to return the translations. But again some were told they are not necessary at this level. We just would rather be safe than sorry so we did it. So I guess email the embassy and see if you get a response.

We have finished our Interview and was approved and are waiting our visa now. Good Luck to you. But you will find duirng your journey that the only thing consistent with the Cairo Embassy is they are ALWAYS Inconsistent.

Just thought that I would add that the doctor that Ahmed was trying to call in Alexandria....well

the embassy has the wrong phone number.

He had to go to the town and look up the number in the phone book.

So some of the date on the embassy website is wrong.

I agree with everything Cheryl posted. It is 131 dollars now for the visa.

Their paperwork is old.

Good Luck

If you love me, then I have everything I need

Instead of the 3 passport pics when going to the medical, I would advise your fiance to take along 6, instead.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Translators

We tried to reach both of the translators listed for Alex back in May when we started this process. We could reach neither by phone or email. We used "Al Manar Translations" in Alexandria and they were the reason for our RFE. They decided to only translate the "NECESSARY" part of his divorce decree, not all of it. Even when we had them redo it after the RFE they left out 1/2 a page! So no recommendation for them. :(

Here is the list of translators in case you decide you need them....

Hi Cheryl,

Where did you find this list? I found this in the instructions on their website this morning:

- A valid passport of at least six months validity

- All the previous passports you may posses

- A recent 5cmx5cmphoto

- Receipt fromCIB Bank

-Complete forms:

- DS-156

- DS-157 ( for men on ages between 16-45)

- Arrive ON TIME for your visa appointmment

- Your fingerprints will be scanned before your interview

- if approved, your visa and passport will be delivered by DHL

This is so confusing... Their packet says something totally different than the website, and I am hearing something totally different from those of you who are in this list. The website says all the forms MUST be done on the computer and printed with the barcode... they NEVER said that in their packet! UGH. And they make it sound like these forms come with you to the interview, not mailed in previously, which I know can't be right!

And can you believe the website doesn't even mention the I-134? This is SO weird. I'm totally depressed.

Are there lawyers in Egypt that can represent us? This looks like a mine field he has to walk over... :(

:crying:

Karmella I got it from the embassy website here on VJ.

Egypt Embassy Info

As for as translators we used the first one on the List I think under alexandria. We had no problems contacting him. Ahmed calls him Mr. Hani. I am pretty sure it is the frist one listed. He met us the same day we called him in just a few hours and returned it to us the next day even though he said would take 2 days. We did not receive any RFE from the embassy and have had our Interview and waiitng for visa to be issued. Ahmed is out right now when he returns I will get his number and post it.

Also we were able to reach the doctors for the medical exam without problems. I will ask Ahmed which one he used in Alexandria for that too when he returns. I will post it also.

Good Luck to you.

There are only two in Alexandria listed.

ALEXANDRIA:

Gizelle George Habil Ibrahim

Email:gizellegeorge6@yahoo.com

NADOURY & NAHAS

71 Sultan Hussein Street

Tel: (203) 487-3609

Fax: (203) 487-5136

Email: nadourynahas@soficom.com.eg

I am sure it was the firstone we used. I was there in October and that is when we first used him....then we used him again for the police and military certificate in December and again just last week for Ahmed's shot records and highschool transcript. He has been very satisfactory.

I will double check with Ahmed when he is home. But I am almost sure it was the first one. We met him together to take the papers. But will let you know as soon as I ask Ahmed.

I recieved written confirmation DIRECTLY from the embassy that ONLY the first 2 pages of the passport are requried. Upon checking our paperwork our file was found complete and an interview scheduled. Remember he will have to take passport with him to interview...that serves as the original. Originals are NOT required to be mailed to USCIS OR the EMBASSY unless they write and ASK for it. If you notice the VJ info on Egypt has NOT been updated in a long time. Once again, translations are not needed for the interview but WILL be needed for change of status. If we had needed anything additional or different they would have sent us a request BEFORE making interview. They CAN however ask to see originals AT the interview.

Dear Madam,

No need to translate such documents. He should photocopy only the first two pages of the passport.
