Of course not. Unfortunately, some parents take their children's extracurricular activities far more seriously than their kids do. In addition, these same very same parents have trouble understanding that at the age their boys and girls are at (usually elementary and junior high), winning the game isn't all too important. It's not like these kids are shooting for the Super Bowl or World Series.

I think a lot of parents just like to have complete control over their children and what they do. I know that's been the case with my father. He still tries to exercise control over my brother and me and we're in our mid-to-late 20s.

And often, the parents are trying to live vicariously through their children...it's pathetic...

To those parents: GET YOUR OWN LIFE!!! STOP TRYING TO STEAL YOUR KIDS' LIVES!!!

She was just telling me the other day that they are switching teams for the little one because the other parents are too obsessed with winning that it's no longer fun for the kids to play the game.

I hear you --- many times it's the parents' own frustrations of never having made the varsity team, of the cheer leading squad or the like. And the poor kids have to deal with the "HARDER JOHNY!!!!" "FOCUS BARBIE!!!!" instead of just having fun :(

i was very into karate, and like 1 year before getting my black belt, my dad got me out of it :crying: , because I was kinda flunking junior high... sniff, 2-3 years later i tried to return, but it wasn't the same.. but it was sad, because, near my house they opened a franchise of that dojo, and the teacher told me, if you've stayed, you'd be the sensei there.. arghh

Because the parents didn't fulfill their own dreams so they feel the need to live through their children. Thus making them: SCARY SPORTY PARENTS!

I ended up pulling my kids out of most organized sports like this. I then put them in bowling and wrestling, scouting etc. Much more mild mannered parents! haha

One thing that jumped out at me from your post, and I'm not saying that your sister is this way...however a majority of other parents that I met through my kids sports said they were switching teams etc. because of other parents being too obsessed...however the majority of THEM were obsessed. It was like...they were less obsessed, and the more obsessed parents were butting in their obsession time! Bizaare, I know.
