If the IO looks for the visa, show him your child's US passport. If the IO says, well you have to pay immigration fees because he is American. Tell the IO that your child is a dual national and you are using his Philippine passport to exit the Philippines and therefore he does not need to pay any immigration fees except the travel tax. If the IO insists on payment, ask to speak to his supervisor. Ask them show you the basis for the fee or the law or rule that states that dual nationals using their Philippine passport to exit need to pay immigration fees. I'm sure the IO will try to skim money from you so be prepared.

I stated earlier that some Philippine immigration officers (IO) do not know how to process dual citizens who are exiting the country. I can't find a black and white rule from the website of the Bureau of Immigration to clear this common misunderstanding.

I hope that when you arrive in the US that you will post your immigration exit experience with your son so others may learn :star:

I have a letter from the US embassy that says my son need to show up at the immigration at least a week before we travel to the states... wondering what the personal appearance is for

She will always be entitled to Filipino citizenship her whole life. Who said she was not?

You did. Please see your post below.

My daughter of 16 yrs old, is born and raised in the Philippines. She recently recieved her CRBA and passport. the only way she can recieve dual citizenship is if she applies for a Philippine passport. At that point she will be applying for the dual citizenship.

She is an American living in the Philippines.

She is not a Philippine citizen. The reason why some are able to use both their PH passport and US passport is because they had a PH passport before they had a US passport. Which automatically gives the dual access. When those passports expire they will have to again claim dual status.

A natural-born does not apply for citizenship. It is a birth right. A passport does not confer citizenship. It is just a proof of citizenship.

Citizenship has no expiration unless renounced. Citizenship does not expire with the passport. It also does not matter which passport you applied first, US or Philippines. A dual national cannot be denied a Philippine passport simply because he/she applied for US passport first.

That means you need to get your son's exii permit from the BID.

They just probably want to see if he looks "half-half".

Ayy mali, akala ko sa US Embassy kayo pinapapunta sa BID pala. Tama si happywifey, baka pa-applyin ka ng exit clearance and ask you to pay the fees. Tell them your son will be exiting with his Philippine passport para hindi ka magbayad.

Make sure you bring your son's two passports. Let us know what happens.

Hi there All,

Me and my USC daughter just got here in the US Jan.18th.The BI told me if I apply a PI passport for my daughter I wouldn't pay the fee (ECC) bcoz once the baby has 2 passports..she/he is dual citizen already bcoz the filipina mom is the petitioner of our child to have their filipino citizen as well.

The BI Olongapo Branch told me that when I went there to get my daughter's exit permit and It was my fault bcoz I depend on their website that dual citizenship is more than 2 months processing and almost 14,000php fee thats why I didn't do it.

So when they told me that all I need to do is get her a Philippine passport and she's dual citizen already and no need to pay fee..just go to BI and show child 2 passports. But it's too late for me to get her a Phil.passport because our flight was Jan.17th and I got her exit permit Jan.5,2009.

If I just knew it earlier..I would get one.Anyways, they told me to bring her NSO BC and just go to nearest Phil.Consulate here in Florida to get her a Phil.passport so when we get back in PI..she can stay longer without paying fees.

P.S.

Immigration at NAIA also asked me why I didn't get her a Phil.Passport and they also told me to get one here at the Phil.Consulate in Florida so she have 2 passports,so she's dual citizen already.

Pahabol:

sabi nga pala ng BI... once the child is native born and got his/her USC from the father, the only way she/he will get dual citizenship is get a Philippine passport.

The dual citizenship application are for people who naturalized not for natural born Filipino-American.

Native born or natural born just need 2 passports, one US Passport and one Phil.passport..no dual citizenship application and fees needed.

Hello.

I have 2 kids both obtained a US passport but we are recently staying here in the philippines. My eldest daughter travel a lot outside of the country. She can stay here in the philippines because she had an ACR everytime she fly i just pay 1k plus in the immigration.

Posted

Why dont u get her a Philippine passport so she have 2 passports and dual citizen already so no need to pay 1k plus or get ACR.Once she's dual citizen ( 2 passports ) she can stay longer anytime she want without paying fees.
