I've seen several references to petitions for Cuban beneficiaries getting expedited or going through USCIS really fast. Why is that? (It doesn't apply to me, my fiance is Canadian...but I'm one of those people who always wants to know "why?" :) )

See my timeline for my K-1 and AOS/EAD/AP details.

I've heard on VJ that it usually takes longer for Cuban beneficiaries to get their interview date since they have to go to a consulate outside Cuba (usually Switzerland)...

But it still seems a little skewed to see someone get a NOA2 in 5 days!!!

The number of Cuban petitions is actually very, very small. It may or may not be fair (I'm unqualified to comment on the Cuban situation), but it's a small enough issue that it's very doubtful that it affects the process in any meaningful way.

I have my own opinions on whether it's fair or not (such as...maybe we should give those really fast processes to countries we do NOT have long-standing political disagreements with, but I could be biased since my fiance lives in Canada and we really don't have many problems with them), but fair or not, it is the way it is and the odds of us changing it aren't very good. I was really just curious as to WHY it was like that, because as I said before I like to know "why?" (yes, I was one of THOSE kids). :)

Remember hearing about all the people entering the USA by small boats, and about all the deaths etc.? Well apparently the government put this system into place to encourage legal immigration for cubans and for them to avoid dangerous maritime transportation to rejoin families.

In my opinion I think its being misused, as it wasn't really designed for K1's.

Mox-don't we hate them? I could be wrong because I can't keep track of all the people we make enemies of...but I thought we were still pissed off at them. (Sorry, I'm not generally a big fan of US foreign policy, so that comment was sarcastic and since it's a forum and you can't hear my tone of voice, I figured I'd clarify...I'm also one of THOSE people...the really liberal ones :) )

Doing that is actually BAD for relations. A good example would be relations with Japan. The Japanese government is very worried about the population trends, ie. birth rates are at an all time low, my understanding is that some prefectures are giving big rebates for having a child.

If the US suddenly offers extremely quick processing to Japanese nationals thats basically advertising to Japan "Hey come to America". Countries don't like their nationals leaving in big numbers.

Logically I know you're very right...but it doesn't make it any easier when you're waiting. It feels like when you have two kids, one who behaves and one who is always bad. So you reward the bad one to try to convince them to be good...but the good one doesn't get anything. :crying:
