I saw an ad on a local TV channel yesterday from a legal firm calling itself a human rights law firm... and they referred to identity theft as their primary area of practice.

So my question to all of you is this - is id theft a human rights violation?

Apparently ID theft is a human right.

I watched the last Democratic debate with Obama and Hillary crapping all over themselves with gusto to outdo each other with promises to legalize the largest group of ID thieves...illegal aliens. ;)

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

It's OK because 'they just want a better life'. Too bad their victim's life becomes a living hell.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Peejay, LS:

So if ID theft is a violation of human rights, then it stands to reason that not only are most (or all?) illegal immigrants here illegally, they are actually violating the human rights of Americans.

Interesting point.

But you still didn't say if you think ID theft actually is a violation of human rights or not.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

It's a crime. Not a human rights violation. IMHO.

What's next? Littering: Human rights violation?

I think you missed the sarcasm in Peejay's post.

He said (jokingly) that ID theft is a human right, not a violation of human rights.

I'm sure you can see that I was being sarcastic.

No, ID theft is not a human rights violation. It is definitely a crime of varying degrees.

LS,

Thanks. So I guess illegal immigrants aren't violating our human rights after all.

No. But they are breaking the law.

Who cares? Americans have no need for human rights, if you go by VJ.

Where did you ever get that idea? If you're referring to our debate a little while back, then I think you missed my point entirely.

I never said that Americans (or anyone, for that matter) have no need or use for human rights. However, I find it ludicrous to define human rights by some sort of all-encompassing body such as the United Nations. They don't speak for every country, government, society and culture on the planet. Therefore, it is a gross misuse of the word "universal" to say that human rights are indeed "universal."

When every nation and culture in the world agrees on what is classified as a human right, then -- and only then -- may we rightfully say that such a construct as "universal" human rights exist. Until such time, human rights as we know them are defined by our country, government, culture and society (and perhaps even more importantly, ourselves).

Just to clear things up... enforcing immigration laws isn't a human rights violation against illegal immigrants either.
