I-134 Statement from Employer

Hope someone can help me here.

My fiance's mother is acting as co-sponsor and has been gathering together supporting evidence for the I-134. However, her employers (a national healthcare company) are being awkward about issuing a statement showing salary and the length and permanency of employment.

What they want is to issue the letter to the person requesting the information and will not issue it direct to her or myself. They would, however, issue the statement to a lawyer but we are not using one. They have also asked her to sign a release of liability before they will issue the statement at all, which she will provide. Is this normal practice?

Can I send this information direct to the embassy and present the rest of the I-134 documents in person at interview? I am worried the embassy will not receive it or 'lose' it and it will delay my application. Anyone else had similar experience?

Thanks.

Have them address the letter to the consulate, as it is the consulate that needs proof of income/employment. (Just address it to the consulate, and write "To whom it may concern".) I work for a large cancer research institute/hospital....and did not even bother to go to HR to get this letter, b/cuz I knew they'd hassle me. I just typed up the letter myself...and had my administrator (my boss) sign it. It worked. :) Couldn't your future MIL do something similar? She knows what her salary is, and her length of employment, right? Couldn't she just type up the letter (there are examples of standard text somewhere around here on VJ, if not let me know, I'll send you the text of mine) and if her relationship with her supervisor is good, perhaps he/she would be willing to sign?

Good luck,

-P

Paula,

You are wonderful. I will phone his mom and see if she thinks this might be an option. I had no idea that HR could be this difficult about it - she explained the whole situation to them as well. I wanted to avoid them sending the letter direct to the embassy in case they took their time over sending it. It also troubles me that I will have the whole I-134 package except for that one piece of evidence. Relying on others to tie the two things together seems like too much of a risk at this stage in the process.

Thanks again for your help.

Tracy :)

You don't have to have it sent directly to the embassy....just address the letterto them. If HR, or the boss signing the letter feels "safer," they could even seal the letter in an envelope...but the letter should be given to you to present to the CO at the time of the interveiw.

Good luck,

Yeah, that's totally what I wanted to avoid. I want it in MY hands!

Thanks again
