Error with marriage paperwork

Hi all. I'm hoping someone can offer advice. I'm an Australian citizen, and married my US husband in Costa Rica, November 2007. Unfortunately this seems to have caused us some problems now that we're looking into the visa process.

Firstly, after arriving back in the US (I'm here on a tourist visa, leaving the country again in just over a week), we pulled out our copy of the registration form completed by the lawyer, and found two mistakes.

1. She listed me as a US citizen, even though she got my other details correct.

2. We were both divorced previously, and she wrote the same name for our ex-spouses (i.e. filled out my ex-husband's name for both of us).

We didn't sign that form, otherwise I would have read it and noticed the mistakes. I emailed her over a week ago, but am yet to hear back. I'm not sure where this places our marriage status - will it have been accepted? Surely those mistakes would be obvious, and the form would have been rejected? I don't even know how to find out if the marriage is registered.

At this point, we're thinking we should have a marriage ceremony here in the US before I leave, because from what I've read recently, we have to apply from the country in which we were married... and we're not likely to go back to Costa Rica for a while. It's really frustrating, because I just don't know where we stand.

K3 visa interviews are in the country of marriage, yes. However, for all intents and purposes the K3 visa is dead. Lot's of discussion on this and good clarification today in another thread.

If you're not married, getting married here would work just fine for the CR1 visa. Forget the K3.
