Hi woodaa

This site is for family based visas, so we really don't know much about the GC lottery.

From what you're saying, you want to get the GC but continue to live in Ireland? As far as I know, this isn't possible. I have a GC, but since we now live back in Ireland, I will be handing it back. To maintain a GC you need to be residing in the U.S. And if not, you cannot remain outside the U.S. for more than 6 months or it becomes null. It used to be 1 year, but immigration has become stricter.

You're making the process out to be a walk in the park, when in fact there's a lot of hoops you have to go through for the lottery based GC. It will also take longer than you are anticipating. Plus if you want to live in Ireland, why bother with a GC? If you do get the GC, but live in Ireland, you will also still have to file U.S. taxes Form 1040 and Foreign Earned Income Exclusion 2555-EZ.

Anyways, I hope it works out for you and good luck.

Donal, good luck with the interview

thanks for reply mand

Il post in another forum then

The thing is i do want to live in America but not just yet, after i applied but before i knew i had won i had made other plans to go somewhere else for a few years. I dont want to lose the chance at a green card so i wana see what i have to do to hold on to it. I know of people pre 9/11 who just used to go back every 18 months or so for a holiday and never lost theres. But i suppose things are hella alot more difficult now.

That's great news Donal, you must be thrilled to finally have it!!

All's going well here, only another 9 weeks to go till the baby is due, so we're all excited and enjoying our weekend lie-ins while we can!! The weather has really been great since we came back, a couple days of rain but really nothing too bad. Mayo and Kerry are playing in the All Ireland football this Sunday, so it should be a good match if Mayo don't fall apart like they usually do! I'm not a big fan of gaelic, but we watched the semi's with Mayo v Dublin and it was a brilliant game.

No major news here at all to be honest, Tesco and Dunnes are in the middle of a "price war" so I'll be heading to either one to do the groceries...see what you're missing Ha! Ha!

Well, good luck job hunting and hope you get word on the AOS too

Colleen, any date on Gavin coming over?

Hey girl ;)

Glad to read that you are doing well over there................9 weeks to go??? It seems like it flew in. Gavin booked his ticket last week-he will be here on October 12th  3 more weeks to go-I am over the moon as you can imagine. He got his flight for 99 euro(165 with taxes), I couldn't believe it. He is flying into JFK so he can get the temp EAD stamp.

I can't wait to see him (F)

take care of yourself over there misses!

Hi everyone!! Sounds like things are going well for all of you and I hope it keeps up. Mand, best of luck as the baby's big day draws closer!!

Things are good here in Indy- we bought our first house a couple of weeks ago!!!! it was exciting and nerve-wracking and I'm so glad we did it. It's a great little place, perfect for us and so nice for Denis to have somewhere here to truly call home.

We're heading to Cork on Nov. 23 and staying til Dec. 2..we'll have a great time in Cork and will also be traveling to Belgium to see his brother and bro's fiancee. He can't wait to see his family and I'm nearly as excited. My parents will be coming along as well- they've never been to Ireland so this should be quite a trip.

Congrats on buying the house!!! When's the house warming? Are you going to invite all the Irish in the US? I hope so!! :P

When you go to Belgium, try to visit Bruges. It's a great place and well worth a visit. It's only about 40 minutes out of Brussels so not difficult to get to. Brussels itself, other than La Grand Place is not great though.

When in Cork, try to visit Cobh and Kinsale. Cork City is nice too and small enough to walk around when shopping (no need to drive 5 miles that way for one store and 7 miles the other way like any city I have seen so far in NC!).

My mom's here in a week and a half. That'll be fun. She's like Crocodile Dundee (the type of person that would chat with a stranger in a city of 12 million people and as she leaves tell them she will see them around). I think she was outside of Cork City once...she might have went to Dublin for the day a few years back. In Cork terms, that's a world traveller! :D

When my mom met with and spoke with my wife (obviously my gf at the time) for the first time a few years ago my wife said she did not understand Irish....my mom doesn't even speak Irish!! My wife did not believe that my mom was speaking English!

Oh, such fun we will have in Charlotte in a week and a bit.....
