Green Card and Passport Name Different ~ OK to travel?

Hi, I am new to this forum and I hope my post would not cause incovenience to anyone :-)

Here is the issue:

Native Passport has married name (just renewed and got my married name added)

Green Card has maiden name

(usually it's the other way as I read in the forum)

I have filed N400 (naturalization) but it's been stuck in name check for over one year! I was going to add married name when I become US citizen but now I need to travel. Will my marriage certificate suffice as I enter back in the US?

THanks so much.

Don't know how helpful this will be or not, but I have never been asked for anything but my greencard when reentering the country, nor have they ever asked me to prove my name. Your pic and your bio information is all on the card.... one swipe and it comes up on their screen.... they can figure it out from there. (My passport and greencard are in two different names also.) But if you're worried, carry your marriage certificate with you to show the name change.

Welcome to VJ, and have a great trip!

As was stated ... passport is secondary for LPR's returning to the USA... Simply hand them your greencard and all should process

YMMV

Thank you!

Before when I traveled, I've noticed the officer would scan my greencard and stamped the returned date on my passport. My old passport was not the biometrics one so it was never scanned. I am just wondering if the officer will scan the greencard plus passport. I will definitely carry my marriage license with me.

Thanks again!

On the other hand, I HAVE been asked to produce BOTH my green card AND my passport when I have re-entered the US, so you should always have both with you, and if your name is different on them, carry your marriage certificate.

Also, considering your tickets have to be in the name as it is in your passport, you'll end up showing both anyhow in all likelihood.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
