Some medical advice please

Hi Gary,

Well I am currently taking Prometrium 200 as well but for different reasons. I am also not taking it in combination with any other meds or hormones. The pill I take is actually a suppository that you insert once a day (sorry for being so graphic) and I have too experianced some side effects. There is a great deal of cramping/bloating and I occasionaly get very dizzy to the point where I just have to sleep. However I'm a completly different boat here and have several other complications as well so i can't really pin point this all to the prometrium. What I can tell you is that the moment I take, I instantly feel ill and that feeling lasts for about an hour or so. So she could very well be having some side effects to the prometrium.

Other things I would consider would be ear infection, blood sugar, and blood pressure.

For those of you who think its unwise to give medical advice on the net, well I'm not in agreement with you. People here are sharing experiances and opinions with someone who ASKED for the advice and ideas. Doctors can't always answer everything and sometimes it just takes meeting or knowing someone who is or has gone through something similar to be able to get some answers and present those to your doctor.

My case is a perfect example of this, I got the prometrium presecribed to me because I asked my doctor about it after talking to several people about my issues with early pregnancy. She never offered it or mentioned it until I asked. She was thrilled that I did bring it up because that is the sole reason I am still pregnant today.

Hope Luzy feels better!

JP

Ok, I think we have this nailed down now. I told Luz to stop taking her hormone pills until I could get her into the doctors. Like a little dingbat (she is my wife so I can call her that :P ) she took her hormone pill again today. The same thing happened again!!! I got a call from Robin about 2 hours ago and he told me that Luz was dizzy and not feeling well again. This time it wasn't as bad as before and she convinced me that I didn't need to come home. She took a nap for about an hour and I just talked to her. She is back to normal albeit kind of groggy. When I get home I will be flushing those pills!

Right now I am confident that the first episode sunday was a reaction to the first hormone pill and the fumes from the cleaning products. I am also confident that yesterday and todays reaction was the result of this hormone that she is taking. I WILL call the doctor and insist that he changes her hormones back to what she had before. We will see what happens this weekend when she isn't taking those pills. I have a feeling that all will be well. I will keep you all posted. Thank you all very much for your advice and well wishes. This week has been one I do not want to repeat!!!!

Gary,

This is a long shot, but have you had any problems with your furnace or water heater? I work around HVAC equipment and I know that Carbon Monoxide can affect people differently.... I am just trying to give another possible cause of Luz's dizziness... How have you and the son been feeling?? Anyway, we hope Luz will feel better soon!

Danny

We have electric heat so i doubt if thats it.

gas water heater? gas stove?

All electric. No gas even comes into the house. (unless I just had chili that is)

Gary,

The symptoms that Luz experienced are consistent with prometrium side-effects...

source

That said, you should contact the doctor who prescribed the medication.

Most important fact about Prometrium

Prometrium increases the risk of blood clots, which can lead to phlebitis, breathing problems, vision problems, or stroke. If you experience any symptoms that might suggest the onset of a clot-related disorder--pain with swelling, warmth, and redness in a leg vein, coughing or shortness of breath, loss of vision or double vision, migraine, or weakness or numbness in an arm or leg--stop taking Prometrium and see your doctor immediately.

More common side effects may include:

Abdominal cramping, back pain, bloating, breast tenderness or pain, chest pain, constipation, coughing, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, emotional instability, fatigue, headache, hot flashes, irritability, joint pain, muscle pain, nausea, night sweats, swelling of hands and feet, upper respiratory infection, urinary problems, vaginal discharge, vaginal dryness, viral infection, vomiting, worry

Did she take two for the one she missed/

How should you take Prometrium?

Take Prometrium as directed by your doctor. If Prometrium is prescribed to prevent abnormal buildup of the uterine lining, you will take it once a day for 12 days in a 28-day cycle. If it is prescribed to treat missed menstrual periods, you will take it for 10 days. Prometrium is taken in the evening.

--If you miss a dose...

Take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take 2 doses at the same time.

Pretty much sounds like its the hormone pills!

Take her back to the Doctor! We don't want our Luzy to be sick anymore

I just read this...sorry I'm late, I've been afk.

Gary, get her back to the docs! The good thing is all her tests came back ok, so it seems like it might be something minor.

From my layperson opin, sounds like it might be the pills. From the 'her jaw hurts' view, it sounds like it may also be an inner ear infection. I once had an ear infection so bad that I literally fell off the doctor's table cos I was so dizzy.

Both those possibilities are a blip as far as 'big stuff' goes. And they are easily treatable. So reassure Luz of that, and GET HER TO THE DOCS. Even IF she feels a little better.

i hope she's better.. (F)(F)

::There’s a laugh in my eyes::

There’s a waltz in my walk

And it’s been such a long time

Since there was hope in my talk

If you never knew

What it is that’s new.. it’s you

‘Cause when your hands are in mine

You set a fire that everyone can see

And it’s burning away

Every bad memory

To tell you the truth

If it’s something new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

The world’s a different place

Where nothing’s too hard to say

And nothing’s too hard to do

Never too much to go through

To tell you the truth

Everything that’s new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

My life, my life

Ohh

So if I get to grow old (oh if I get to grow old)

With many years behind me (many years behind me)

There’s only one thing I want (aahh)

One thing I need beside me

For all that you are

For everything you do

For all that you’ve done

Just for showing me the truth

::It’s you...It’s you...Baby it’s you::

what's the update?

She hasn't taken the hormone pills and has been completely normal. I am convinced that the first "attack" was a result of taking the pill and then overdosing on the fumes. The 2 attacks since then were the pill only. We will get her prescription changed by the doctor.

Maybe a doctor change is also in order?

Hope that it's really just the pill!

Luz, if the spells continue, please do go see a doctor. I can understand how you feel about them because I am the same way. Things have to get really bad before I do go see one. But, you have to think of Gary and Robin also. So, please do go see one if you still have those "episodes" (F)

What a month this has been!!!! God, I am glad it's almost over. There is something else you all don't know about Luz. 2 weeks ago she cut her finger VERY badly. She cut an artery and was pumping that bright red blood all over the place. I took her to the urgent care clinic and got her sewed up. That has healed nicely. Then last week she almost died on me and we had the overnight stay in the hospital. Then 2 days ago I had to come home because of her dizzy spell. Well guess what? She isn't done yet!! Just now she cut the ####### out of another finger!!! What is up with her lately? It's borderline whether it needs a stitch and I got the bleeding to stop. I think a divorce would ensue if I insist upon another doctor visit so I put antibiotic cream on it and a pressure bandage to get it to seal over. I hope this is the end of her bad luck.
