Hey guys, i just wanted to share with you that on February 11th @ 10.15am i quit smoking cold turkey!!

I had no choice in the matter. I thought i had caught a nasty cold on Feb 8th, i woke up one morning and all i did was cough, so i dragged my butt to the Drs office where i was told i had a chest infection and that the Dr wanted to admit me to the hospital, me being stubborn i refused and decided to take the antibiotics the dr gave me and hope for the best. 3 days came and went and got progessively worse, by the morning of the 11th, i couldnt breathe, couldnt talk for coughing, my hubby dragged me back to the Drs office, i was admitted to the hospital!! Within an hour i had been given a CT Scan on my lungs. I had 'widespread pneumonia' :crying: was put on 3 IV's. I almost died the Dr told me. That i should be more respectful of having Asthma, because it can kill!! So, after a few days in hospital, hooked up to IV's am getting my strength back, not sure whether the damage done to my lungs will be permanent or not, just taking it one day at a time

So far, i've found it reasonably easy to quit, not had any craving for a cig, although i do feel like i'm in a permanent daze, like i'm lost could it be withdrawals from quitting smoking?? who knows, or maybe its the fact that my poor wee body is still trying to fight off the massive infection that caused this 'widespread pneumonia'

But on a good note, i feel cleaner, my hair doesnt smell like an ashtray! I can actually taste my food now!!

Its been: 1 week, 3 days, 12 hours, 33 minutes, 38 seconds since i last lit up a cig!

I have not smoked: 210 cigarettes and i have saved $31.50

Maria

Separated!!

Good job! Seriously, ownz

Somebody I work with just now quit, too, and she was complaining about coughing and stuff now that she's quit and her lungs being screwed up. I guess that happens for awhile right when you stop, so maybe hopefully you've skipped that part with it being all absorbed into the pneumonia. It can be like one big catharsis to a better and more yummilicious food tasting life!

I don't have any suggestions or tips, though...half my family smokes. I don't think the craving ever goes away but you just have to learn to deal with it, guess it's different for everyone. My sister quit all while she was pregnant and then lit up again when the baby was born -_- My brother quit for a couple years and then started back again. Same for uncle. It's frustrating.

I would say, not knowing anything about it, just try not to get bored or fidgety since I imagine that's what a lot of it comes down to. If you do start getting bored or wanting to indulge in a cig., just take some of that money you're saving and go buy yourself something awesome instead. Like a pinball machines only put gumballs in it to play with...oooh....

Good job! I quit on October last year, but I took that med Chantix this time. I quit cold turkey once in 2000, I didn't smoke for 3 years, then I quit cold turkey again in August 06, I didn't smoke for 2 months. So this time I had some help.

Congratulations  Stay with it, you are now through the hard part. I quit June 1, 2004 and haven't had a desire to touch a cigarette since. I have a hard time being around smokers now, I just don't like the smell or what it does to me.

I had to give up smoking turkey too; cold or otherwise. Giving up cigarettes was far more difficult.

;)

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Maria, you can do it! Hubby and I quit at the same time almost 4 yrs ago. We used the patch to help us through the process. I haven't had any cravings for cigarettes in a long time. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I try one again but I've never really felt the urge to have one.
