Sometimes Charles can't understand what I'm saying, but it's not because of my accent, it's because he's not really listening :P

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

After a dozen years in the US, I still have a little of my German accent left - very little. People can't quite tell that it's a German accent but they notice an accent of some sort. Nani, on the other hand, still maintains a very heavy accent after having lived here for 4 years.

So they just think that you sound only a little angry? :P

that's something i noticed about the german language. it always sounds like someone is having an argument

blah blah blah blah bleh bleh bleh bleh yack yack yack :P

I don't notice hubby's american accent anymore. Its just the way he speaks. Ive stopped noticing american accents altogether I think. The longer you are here I think, the less the words sound strange. I still have my London accent and hubby only comments when Im either upset or angry, and I really go into my London/Essex tirade, throwing in a bit of rhyming slang just for good measure. My mum is Irish though with a very soft accent. Hers does get stronger too when shes 'avin a rant !

I've found myself dropping my "t" now occasionally. I have caught myself saying "budder" instead of "butter" or "bu'er". I guess it is just the influence of all the accents I encounter every day now.

I'm certainly not trying to lose my accent, I don't want to be the British equivalent of Madonna! Oh the horror!

Oh that would be soooo bad. I know people think Scots, Welsh, Mancunians etc have strong accents, I really think us "suvverners" have the one that is toughest to lose. We have a friend from Hull who has been here 6 years and she sounds like a native. She really is the British version of Queen Madge!

Oh no! I've really started making an effort to NOT lose my accent (I mean I've only been here 15 months for gawds sake!), most people understand me (well, unless I say herb, with the "h"...lol) too. I reckon I need to start downloading more British TV, to feel like I'm right back home.

Funnily enough, a bloke came into my work the other week and he was from Brentwood in Essex. I'm originally from Southend and once we got talking it felt great to actually have a face to face convo with a fellow Essex person!

We sounded like a couple of Essex people down the pub having a jar on a Friday night. :D

awww its always nice meeting a "local". There are quite a few Brits around here (prob cause its close to DC), but I still act like an excited labrador when I meet one....

A guy in the store just couldn't understand what I meant by tomahto. Steph had to translate for me

Makes up for the times in the UK when I had to do the same for her.

Like everyone else, I only notice Steph's accent on occasions (and probably the same for her) or when she says something in a different way to how I'll say it. She's endlessly mocking my use of cahn't (which is funny because she's actually picked up cahn't be arsed/bothered from that)

The people I work with do laugh at my pronunciations sometimes, especially baNARna and toMARto. Oh, and when I told them that hot dog sausages are called "frankfurters" I swear there were three people walking around saying "frankfurter" in an Essex accent for about an hour. :D

Yes, I still notice David's accent and it still makes me weak in the knees. He hasn't seemed to have lost it since he moved here in 2004, although he does use more American terminology than he used to...but at least it's still with his accent (which makes it sound even funnier sometimes).

We had each other roaring the other night, forcing each other to sound like the other. Neither one of us can immitate the other's accent to save our souls.

Yeah, I'm always asked to pick up some Banahnas by Steph's boss.

They find the British slang stupidly funny and often use it now... And occasionally by accident.

I've found it impossible to do an "American" accent since being here... Although I probably found it impossible when back in the UK too
