Another FL couple! WAHOO!

As for what everyone's saying...I agree with the way you guys are going about it if you really want to be with each other without going through the waiting period. Who knows how much money we've spend flying back and forth to see each other during all this time! We see each other pretty much every month! Westjet loves us! he he he

Good luck with the I130?

Ohmygoodness, you HAVE to fly Southwest out of Buffalo! It's an awesome airport (their long term stay parking lot is so flipping cheap.... especially when you use the 10% off coupon available from their website) and I've racked up so many points on Southwest's rewards program that I've had quite a few free round trips (which are totally transferrable to anyone you wish) and even more free bevvies! (I'm flying to Denver for free next week to accompany my husband on a business trip..... using my husband's free tickets.) And they ALWAYS give you free bevvies when your flight's been delayed or it's the Christmas season. And if you download their Ding program you can get daily specials too. Can you believe I've actually flown Buffalo to Orlando, Orlando to Buffalo for $39 each way? Last Thanksgiving, I went home for $50. I (L) Southwest. Can you tell?

Yes, it is unfortunate that our wedding plans have all been somewhat controlled by the K1 visa timing.

We had a smaller ceremony in our own home with a minister so the planning was easier and the location was obviously available!

That said, We filed end of Jan last year, thinking I might be there by end of Aug. Well......our interview was in Oct and we moved and married in November. I had a dress that I'd bought in May (thinking it would be a warm weather or at least early fall wedding) but I got married 2 days after Thanksgiving :) So ya just never know.

Another thing you will come to terms with is that you can try to have the best intentions and make arrangements so that 'everyone can come', but because you can't plan a firm date, there will be people who simply can't come. Sometimes it will be cost, sometimes weather (which you're trying to avoid I know). If people want to be there, they will be, you can only do so much or you'll die stressing over it.

The one thing I didn't 'get' till afterwards is that it all works out in the end, sometimes with this situation, you don't end up with a huge, 500 guest dream event (if that's what you had your heart set on) but that is still totally ok.

Hope that didn't come off sounding crusty, I know I felt down sometimes because I thought I couldn't please everybody

I know EXACTLY what you mean, Udella. In EVERYTHING you said.

I-130 ? I'm going the I-129F route.

Glad to see there are other Floridians besides me on here. Have yet to find anyone from Nova Scotia on the board...

KarenCee's husband, Fuzzness, is from Nova Scotia. I've seen one or two others, but I can't think of their names at the moment.

Hey, we should keep in touch. Our wedding will be in Washington, but final destination is Jacksonville Fl. It could be handy when figuring out AOS and stuff later.

Indeed...all the Canucks are moving as far south as possible eh? ;)

I usually fly United because I've had good (no lost luggage, complaints, etc) experiences with them, however, I tend to fly Delta as well because I'm enrolled in Skymiles. I hadn't considered Southwest. I try to avoid Boston airport because of the problems she and I have had with getting stuck there.

Chances are I might either be living still here in Orlando or in West Palm Beach come time for her to move, so I'll certainly keep everyone up to date.

Well, we actually started our process when he was living in Maryland. But he was transferred by his employer midway through, so we had to change everything. Houses sure were much cheaper in Maryland. And I really miss the changing of the seasons :( Not sure where we'll be in a couple of years, though. But it sure will be an adventure. ^_^

Feel bad posting this rather than PMing someone, but figured ya'll would know right off the bat...

On Q#10 on I-129F regarding citizenship, I and my parents, grandparents, etc are all born here, so do I just mark "Birth in the U.S." and move onto the next question? The part that gives me pause is the "Obtained a citizenship certificate" right below that.

Don't feel bad, J. Your citizenship was acquired through birth in the US. The certificate information is there for those who immigrated and naturalized.

With the Canadian weather and unpredictability of flights during that season, my lady and I are having a tough time deciding on a date for our wedding. On one hand, we would love to spend Christmas together here in Florida, married of course. However, that would require that the I-129F process go off without a hitch and no snags. How risky do you think it is to plan around winter time for a wedding when her guests/family would be flying out of Halifax, Nova Scotia?

The alternative to risking it this year is to take it slower and wait till late winter/early spring, say March and have the ceremony then...thoughts? I know in the end it is our personal wishes and ideas, but from a reality perspective, I'd like some input. I think that is feasible, but risky, to try and plan around the K-1 Visa and "cross our fingers" hoping she'd have her Visa by October of this year.

Hey J! My husband Joel is from Nova Scotia...wherebouts is your lady from? Joel is from West Pubnico, about 30 minutes from Yarmouth. Lovely area to be sure...we are planning to move home in the future, once we've done the deal down here. We think we'll move towards Tusket though. We didn't plan anything til his visa was in hand. His dad and family are all lobster fishermen so we planned things so family could come. As it turned out, only his mom and dad were able to fly down. We were approved Feb/2006...visa in hand May/2006...Wedding was July 7, 2006.

Anywho, welcome to the Canada Forum and to VJ. :D

i would suggest to NOT plan anything in october... (too early)

I sent my k1 application last october and plan for an easy wedding (with almost no organisation) for the 1st of september.

So if you send yours mid-march, count around 10 months after minimum to be safe...wich put you in january 2009. It can be aerlier (or later) of course but it's awesome to have a good surprise !!!

Also, see if it is possible to marry simple then to do the big/nicer thing later on :)
